Job Description
Medical Surgical/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Medical Surgical/Tele Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality patient care in our medical-surgical and telemetry units. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong competency in phlebotomy and intravenous (IV) placement, as these are essential skills for the role. You will work alongside Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) who assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patient conditions, including cardiac and pulmonary health.
• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias using appropriate rapid response protocols.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management.
• Utilize special equipment including bladder scanners, tele systems, EKG machines, and lifepacks effectively for patient care.
• Maintain isolation precautions and adhere to infection control protocols.

Shift and Work Requirements

• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour rotations (19:00 - 07:00).
• Patient-to-nurse ratio is 5 to 1 during the day/evening shifts and 6-7 to 1 during night shifts, with the potential for an increased stretch ratio based on staffing dynamics.
• Weekend commitment: Every other weekend required.
• No floating outside the defined scope of practice except as necessary between similar units.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a relevant setting.
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Open to first-time travelers.
• Must be available for shifts with limited time off; no more than one week of time off will be allowed during the contract period.
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias necessary.
• Pendings licenses not accepted for this position.
• Locals not accepted within a 75-mile radius.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system preferred.
• Experience in handling a wide range of patient diagnoses including cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal (GI), infection, and unmanaged diabetes management.

Attire

Scrub colors should consist of any combination of navy and white.

Charting

Documentation will be completed using the Epic EHR system.
