36 Work Shift Job Description Entity/Organization: MUHA (Medical University Hospital Authority/Medical Center) Hours Per Week : 36 Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3 - 12 Hour Rotating Shifts per week, including some weekends Job Summary/Purpose :5 West, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 23 bed mixed acuity Heart and Vascular unit. Eight of our patient rooms are dedicated to service ICU level patients including management of swan Ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impellas, ventilated patients, and CRRT. The remaining 15 beds have the versatility to serve acute and intermediate level patients. Our patient population consists of primarily Cardiology and Vascular surgery patients, and 5 West is also the home unit for surgical oncology and plastic surgery. This unit functions as the stepdown unit for the Ashley River Tower offering a higher level of care for the many specialties in this building. The nurses on this unit can manage a-lines, lumbar drains, and titrate cardiac drips. Nurse: patient ratios range from 1:2-1:4 based on patient acuity. This highly engaged team is innovative, dynamic, and fast-paced. Minimum Training and Education : Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations : Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
