Role Description This full-time, on-site Police Officer position is based at the LSU New Orleans campus in New Orleans, LA. The Police Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors through routine patrols, incident response, and crime prevention activities. Daily duties include enforcing applicable laws and university regulations, responding to emergencies, conducting preliminary investigations, collecting and preserving evidence, and preparing detailed incident and arrest reports. The role also involves engaging with the campus community, providing safety education, participating in special events, and collaborating with local law enforcement agencies when needed. The Police Officer is expected to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs require. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong law enforcement and public safety skills, including experience in Police, Police Officer duties, and general Law Enforcement practices. Candidates should possess skills related to investigative work, including handling Evidence and participating in Criminal Investigations. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, as well as university policies, in a fair and consistent manner. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with a diverse campus community. Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to community-oriented policing and inclusive practices. High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a recognized police academy and current POST certification preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to meet physical fitness standards for patrol, emergency response, and occasional strenuous activity. Previous campus policing or public safety experience is beneficial, as is training in crisis intervention, first aid/CPR, and emergency management. Applicant must me able to pass a criminal and civil background check. pass a Drug and medical screening. pass required State Civil Service test with a score of 75 or greater.
