Summary A registered pharmacy technician is someone other than a licensed pharmacist or pharmacy intern who performs pharmacy tasks and duties as delegated by a licensed pharmacist that do not fall within the purview of Florida Statute 465.003(13). All such delegated acts will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist who is responsible for all such acts performed by persons under his or her supervision as outlined in Florida Statute 465.014. The supervised tasks and duties include initiating or receiving communications with patients, providers, and team members to facilitate patient care for refill authorization requests, appointment review, medical records review, insurance authorization review, prescribing and processing of prescriptions—including investigational medication utilized in clinical trials in compliance with regulations—and medication associated with REMS. The technician may also assist with compounding, preparation, and distribution of pharmaceutical and investigational medication following USP standards, inventory stewardship, record maintenance, and required reporting. Position Highlights Registered pharmacy technician performs tasks and duties as delegated by a licensed pharmacist that do not fall within the purview of Florida Statute 465.003(13). Tasks include initiating communications for refill requests, appointments, medical records, insurance authorizations, processing prescriptions—including investigational medication—and assisting with compounding and inventory management. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision as outlined in Florida Statute 465.014. Responsibilities (not a complete list) Medication Order Processing: Transcribe medication orders into the computerized medical record system ensuring all required information is complete as per protocol and policy. Fully process prescriptions and new orders for pharmacist checking. Fulfilling Medication Orders: Fill orders in the proper priority, accurately count, and attach neat labels. Use inventory management systems for documentation. Non‑sterile and sterile compounding: Prepare parenteral dosage forms using aseptic techniques in line with USP, state, federal regulations and GCP guidelines for investigational medications. Delivery of Medications: Prepare and deliver medications ensuring proper storage based on stability needs. Quality Assurance: Perform routine QA tasks, checking extemporaneous medications, commercial drugs, IV solutions, and equipment for expiration, recalls, or deterioration. Inventory Management: Receive medication and supplies per inventory control policies. Maintain inventory levels and identify needs for revision or perpetual supply problems. Minimum Credentials & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Graduated from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or possess equivalent experience qualifying for licensure per Florida Statutes, Section 465.014. Registered Pharmacy Technician license. Two years of experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician, with at least one year (or two years for a new hire) in unit dose, pharmacy orders, inventory computer systems or investigational/REMS medication management and pharmacy automation software, equipment and EHR, and preparation of sterile intravenous medications, including hazardous or investigational drugs for cancer treatment, with competency in USP clean room practices and GCP guidelines. Salary Range $21.12 – $32.24 per hour. Compensation may vary based on location, experience, skills, and internal equity.
