Job Description
Performs a wide range of maintenance tasks-including unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled work-in the construction, operation, repair, and upkeep of the Town's infrastructure. This includes sewers, streets, parks, storm drainage systems, facilities, and buildings. Safely operates various hand tools, power equipment, construction machinery, and vehicles to support these activities.
The Maintenance Worker I may often perform basic duties required by the Maintenance Worker II but is not expected to have the depth of experience skill level and certifications. As a result, the Maintenance Worker I will work with less tools and mechanical equipment and have less opportunities for working independently and making judgements on matters related to work procedures and methods.
The Maintenance Worker II differs from a Maintenance Worker I in that the incumbent performs more complex maintenance duties. They typically will operate more independently, exercising judgement, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment needed.

The Maintenance Worker III differs from a Maintenance Worker II in that the incumbent performs complex and specialized maintenance duties and projects. They will operate more independently, exercising judgement, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment needed. This position may act as an on-site foreman with limited supervision of staff.

  • MWI: This is an entry-level position that works under the immediate supervision of the Maintenance Worker III and direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor (Parks & Public Works)
  • MWII: This is a journey-level position that works under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor (Parks & Public Works) or a higher-level Maintenance Worker
  • MWIII: This is a senior-level position that works with minimal supervision of the Operations Supervisor (Parks & Public Works) and may provide field supervision to MWI and MW II.

Summary of Duties
The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not allencompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time. Duties may vary
  • Operates power mowers, aerators, and other specialized equipment for maintaining parks, open spaces, landscape projects, and minor construction projects
  • Operates trucks and snowplow equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand to remove snow from trails, sidewalks, and parking lots
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance of all playground equipment and park equipment including shelter, benches, and signage
  • Performs general maintenance and pruning of trees and shrubs to landscaped areas throughout the Town
  • Performsroutineinspection,cleaning and preventivemaintenanceon assignedequipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of tools by cleaning and checking tools after use
  • Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, excavation, mowing, seeding, fertilizing, sewer manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, pipe placement, and backfilling
  • Assists in the training of seasonal staff or junior level employees, as assigned, to increase their skills in the maintenance, construction and repair of sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and equipment operations

Minimum Qualifications


EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE
  • HighSchool diplomaor GED.
  • MWI : Six (6) months of experience in landscaping, park maintenance or related area of emphasis
  • MWII: One (1) to Two (2) years of experience at Level I and the ability to operate all Town equipment relating to landscape/parks maintenance, construction, or repair
  • MWIII: Four (4) years of experience at Level I/IIand advanced knowledge to operate and train employees to use Town equipment relating to parks maintenance, construction, or repair. Supervisory experience is preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
MWI:
  • ValidColoradoDriver'sLicenseandasatisfactorydriving record
  • Flaggers certificatewithin six(6)monthsofhire date.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification within six (6) months of hire date
MWII:
  • Possess valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake and upkeep of all CDOT & Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association requirements.
  • Attain two of the certifications stated below or an equivalent training/certification as determined and approved by the PW Director.

    2. Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)

MWIII:
  • Possess valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake and upkeep of all requirements CDOT & Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association.
  • Attain four of the certifications stated below or an equivalent training or certification as determined and approved by the PW Director.
    1. Qualified Supervisor Pesticide Applicators License
    2. CDOT Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor Certification (TECS)

MEDICAL, DENTAL, & VISION INSURANCE
The Town of Mead's medical, vision, dental, and life insurance provider is Colorado Employer Benefit Trust (CEBT). The town pays 100% of employee coverage and 50% of employee's covered dependents for the least expensive plan.

Medical: Employees may choose to enroll in one of following medical plan options which have a broad network of doctors, hospitals and health providers:
• Kaiser Permanente HMO 45 plan
• CEBT PPO 4 plan (UMR A UnitedHealthcare Company)
• CEBT High Deductible Health Plan (HD3500 via UMR- A UnitedHealthcare Company)


Dental: A comprehensive dental program is available that provides access to a broad network of dental providers. Coverage is through Delta Dental.

Vision: Employees that choose to enroll in our CEBT vision plan may take advantage of benefits that include coverage towards contacts and glasses.
FSA & HSA ACCOUNTS

Flexible Spending Account (FSA): Employees have the option to contribute to their FSA which can be used to pay for qualifying medical, dental and vision expenses. The Town offers Flexible Spending Account through Alerus. The Town matches medical FSA contributions up to $500/year for eligible employees.
Dependent Care FSA: Dependent care FSA allows for reimbursement of dependent childcare or elder day care expenses on a tax favored basis.
Health Savings Account (HSA): An employee who has elected the HD3500 plan (High-Deductible Health Plan) is eligible to contribute to an HSA account. The Town contributes $750 annually (Individual)- $31.25 per paycheck and $1,200 annually (Family)- $50.00 per paycheck.
RETIREMENT

GENERAL Staff- the Town offers a 457(b)-retirement plan through Nationwide and matches an employee's contribution of up to 5%. Standard Contribution Limit (2026): $24,500. Catch-up Contributions (50 or older)an additional $8,000 for a total of $32,500.


LIFE & AD&D

The Town of Mead provides basic life coverage up to $50,000 for employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Additional coverage may be purchased through a voluntary life insurance program.
DISABILITY

The Town's short-term and long-term disability coverage is provided by The Hartford Group. Premium costs for employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week is paid for 100% by the Town. Long-term disability coverage is effective the first month following 60 days of employment. *LTD does not apply to Police due to FPPA benefits.

EMPLOYEE ASSSISTANCE PROGRAM

AllOne - is your Employee Assistance Program offering six free counseling sessions (per year, per incident) for CEBT members, spouses and dependents ages 6 to 26.

Modern Health is a mental health care platform offering self-guided, community-based, and one-on-one support for members (and dependents ages 6+) enrolled in a CEBT medical plan. Members have access to eight therapy and eight coaching sessions per calendar year, plus unlimited access to Modern Health digital resources.
OTHER BENEFITS
  • Wellness Program: The Town of Mead values employee health and well-being. The Town has a platform called Nectar that is used as a wellness & recognition platform. An employee can earn points through recognition & wellness to buy gift cards, Mead Swag, and other items. They can also provide recognition and points to colleagues.
  • Physical Fitness Reimbursement: The Town offers a $30.00 per month reimbursement for eligible fees including the annual or monthly fees for an individual membership at a fitness center or virtual program, as well as fees for personal training or approved fitness classes (such as yoga, spin, strength training, aerobics, boxing or martial arts, or other self-defense classes such as Krav Maga and jiu-jitsu).
  • Tuition Reimbursement- receive a reimbursement of up to $3,000 per fiscal year for preapproved educational expenses for employees with the town for at least a year.
  • College Invest - opportunity to enroll in a 529 College Savings Plan.
  • Town of Mead employee vehicle charging program - Special charging rate at Mead Town Hall charging station. Employee charge rate is $.10 per kWh.
  • The Length of Service Award r ecognizes the value of the long-term, dedicated service of Town employees. Employees at 5 years & beyond receive $100.00 for each year worked (starting at $500.00). This is paid out as a one-time bonus in year 6 and beyond.
  • Community Center: Employees get to use the Center free of charge. Employee household members (those living in the same residence as the employee), can also enjoy the facility for a $1.00 drop-in fee.
