JOB DESCRIPTION Round Lake Area Schools District 116 is seeking two Assistant Elementary Principals for Murphy Elementary School and Indian Hill Elementary School. Job Title: Assistant Principal-Elementary Department: Administration Location: Murphy Elementary School / Indian Hill Elementary School Pay Scale: $70,221.60 - $92,881.32 Work Calendar: School Year (200 days) SUMMARY OF POSITION The Elementary Assistant Principal position works collaboratively with the school principal to support the success of all students in the school, including the professional capacity of school staff. Effective communication with all stakeholders is paramount. The overarching responsibilities include the evaluation and professional development of staff, personnel management, special education facilitation, assessment management, emergency management and facility operations. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years of professional level experience working in an educational setting. Education: Master’s degree in education providing appropriate administrative endorsement(s). B. CREDENTIALS: Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal endorsement. Evaluation Qualifications for Teacher Evaluator. Special Education licensure and experience preferred. C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to demonstrate high moral and ethical standards. Ability to apply leadership skills within a shared decision‑making model. Considerable problem‑solving skills that lead include flexibility and divergent thinking. Extensive knowledge of learning theory, current trends, program planning, and management of instructional programs. Demonstrated interest, knowledge and/or applied experience in serving special needs and culturally/ linguistically diverse students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Experience using formative assessment (and other student data) to improve instruction and/or the provision of academic and social supports (through RtI and PBIS). Excellent oral/written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills to present information. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinates efforts with building principal to establish and implement a shared mission and vision for the school that leads to academic growth for all learners. In concert with the principal, creates, develops and sustains relationships that result in active student engagement in the learning process. Works with the principal to ensure a welcoming environment and school culture that successfully develops the full range of students’ learning capacities–academic, creative, social‑emotional, behavioral and physical. Supports the principal in developing, implementing, and monitoring the outcomes of the school improvement plan. Leads and facilitates the service team in maintaining an effective IEP process. In collaboration with the building principal, evaluates the effectiveness of instruction by conducting frequent formal and informal observations and provides timely and specific feedback as part of the district teacher appraisal system. Works with the principal to support and facilitate teacher teams and professional learning communities (PLC). Supports and participates in professional learning grounded in improving instructional and operational leadership. Proactively engages families and communities in support of student learning and the school’s shared mission, vision and learning goals. Creates and supports a climate that values, accepts, and understands cultural diversity and multiple perspectives. Consistently models positive behaviors aligned to the schools mission and vision and builds capacity within the school community. Takes an active leadership role, with or in the absence of the school principal, in the event of any safety or other emergency. Other duties as assigned. POSITION SUPERVISES Supervises, evaluates and leads certified and non‑certified staff under the direction of the Principal.
