Safety Manager

Role Description The Safety Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Chicago, IL, responsible for overseeing and improving all aspects of safety within Pacella Trucking Express. This role includes developing, implementing, and monitoring safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to trucking and transportation. Day-to-day tasks involve conducting safety training for drivers and staff, performing workplace and vehicle safety inspections, leading accident and incident investigations, and maintaining detailed safety records and reports. The Safety Manager collaborates with operations leadership to address safety risks, analyzes safety data to recommend corrective actions, and communicates safety standards clearly to all team members. This position also works to promote a strong safety culture by regularly engaging with staff, providing guidance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of safety leadership at trucking company
• A track record of measurable CSA improvement and reduced accident frequency
• Direct experience managing a DOT compliance review or audit
• Proficiency in Accident Investigation, including root cause analysis, documentation, and development of corrective and preventive actions.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and reporting skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple safety initiatives.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and foster a safety-focused culture across diverse teams.
• Intermodal or drayage experience preferred
• Deep working knowledge of the FMCSRs
• Experience with telematics a plus (Samsara)
