Senior Display Software Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Senior Display Software Engineer to develop, test, troubleshoot, and support software used in embedded display systems based on Embedded Linux and Android platforms.

This engineer will partner closely with QA, system architects, platform/software engineers, and hardware teams to deliver reliable, high-performing display functionality throughout the product development and release lifecycle.

The successful candidate will bring strong embedded software development experience along with hands-on knowledge of display drivers, graphics frameworks, and Android display architecture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Software Testing, Validation & Quality

• Validate software releases against functional, performance, stability, and reliability requirements.
• Participate in laboratory testing and validation of display functionality and overall system behavior.
• Review test results, identify failures, and work with engineering teams to implement corrective actions.
• Perform verification, debugging, and quality-improvement activities throughout the development lifecycle.
• Help ensure display software meets product and system-level quality expectations.

Defect Triage & Root-Cause Investigation

• Investigate and technically triage defects identified by QA, validation laboratories, customers, or other engineering teams.
• Perform detailed root-cause analysis of software, driver, platform, and system-level problems.
• Develop short-term workarounds when needed while driving issues toward permanent technical solutions.
• Work across hardware and software teams to resolve difficult integration, platform, and display-related issues.
• Analyze system behavior and interactions between drivers, operating-system components, and hardware.

Display Software Development

• Design, implement, debug, and maintain software supporting embedded display functionality.
• Develop enhancements and fixes within display frameworks, drivers, HALs, and related system services.
• Participate in software and system architecture discussions and contribute to technical design decisions.
• Assist with integration of display software across platform, hardware, and product development teams.
• Support software releases and ongoing maintenance of production platforms.

Technical Collaboration & Leadership

• Collaborate with system architects, hardware engineers, QA, platform developers, and other software engineering teams.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to less-experienced engineers.
• Participate in project planning, technical design reviews, issue reviews, and release activities.
• Help establish and improve engineering practices related to development, validation, debugging, and software quality.
• Take ownership of complex technical issues and drive them through resolution.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• At least 6 years of professional experience developing embedded software.
• 4+ years of hands-on C and C++ development experience.
• 3+ years of experience developing software for Embedded Linux and/or Android platforms.
• Demonstrated experience developing, integrating, debugging, and validating display subsystems.

Core Technical Skills

• Strong programming skills in C and C++.
• Extensive experience with Embedded Linux, RTOS, and/or microcontroller-based software.
• Practical experience with Android platform development.
• Strong understanding of embedded software architecture and system-level troubleshooting.
• Ability to investigate complex software and system problems and determine effective technical solutions.
• Experience working across multiple layers of an embedded software stack.

Display & Graphics Experience

Hands-on experience with one or more of the following areas:

• Display driver development
• Android display architecture/frameworks
• SurfaceFlinger
• Hardware Composer (HWC)
• Display HAL / Hardware Abstraction Layer
• Android system services
• Graphics and rendering pipelines
• Display bring-up, integration, and validation

Debugging & System Analysis

• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
• Experience with debugging, tracing, profiling, and diagnostic tools used in embedded systems.
• Ability to interpret system logs, traces, driver interactions, and overall platform behavior.
• Experience locating performance or functional bottlenecks and implementing system-level optimizations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience developing or debugging on Qualcomm-based SoCs.
• Familiarity with display interfaces and protocols such as MIPI-DSI, HDMI, DisplayPort, and eDP.
• Experience developing or troubleshooting both kernel-space and user-space drivers.
• Knowledge of graphics technologies such as OpenGL ES and/or Vulkan.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and continuous integration environments.
• Exposure to hardware bring-up and Board Support Package (BSP) development.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum engineering teams.
