Lead Product Designer - Personalization & AI Experiences

Expedia Group is building AI-powered personalization experiences that help travelers feel more understood, from the earliest moments of exploration through to product delivery. As a Lead Product Designer in AI Platforms, Personalization, Memory, and Signal Capture , you will help define how traveler signals, preferences, behaviors, memory, and feedback translate into experiences that become increasingly relevant over time. This onsite role is based in Austin, TX , and focuses on connecting the experience across surfaces and technology layers. You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, Analytics, Pricing, and Design to shape systems that capture signals, address cold-start challenges, and make complex AI concepts feel intuitive and actionable for travelers. Responsibilities Own meaningful parts of the personalization experience from exploration through product delivery. Work across product surfaces and the underlying technology layer, connecting what Expedia Group learns about travelers with experiences that grow more relevant and useful over time. Partner closely with cross-functional teams to explore opportunities across memory, signal capture, personalization models, and cold-start experiences. Define and design personalization experiences that help Expedia Group understand traveler intent, preferences, and behavior, then translate those signals into meaningful personalization. Explore approaches to solve cold-start, creating value from a traveler’s first interactions and expanding relevance as more context becomes available. Design signal-capture experiences that help travelers express what matters, explicitly or implicitly, while supporting personalization that remains understandable and explainable. Connect individual product interactions to the broader personalization ecosystem, considering how signals, memory, models, and traveler interactions influence one another. Partner with technical teams to translate opportunities in AI, machine learning, data, and personalization into experiences travelers can understand and use. Prototype to learn using high-fidelity prototyping and experimentation to test ideas, evaluate possibilities, and accelerate learning. Help promising concepts mature into real product experiences that can inform and become part of Expedia Group products. Maintain a high craft bar by applying strong interaction and visual design judgment to complex problems and delivering cohesive, polished experiences. Influence through storytelling by communicating thinking, evidence, tradeoffs, and opportunities with partners and leaders. Share patterns, learnings, and approaches that help other teams apply personalization thinking across the traveler journey. Requirements 8+ years of product design, UX design, interaction design, or equivalent experience creating digital products and experiences. Bachelors or Masters degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. A portfolio showing strong product-design craft across complex digital experiences, including work that progressed toward or into market. Ability to translate ambiguous or technically complex opportunities into clear, intuitive product experiences. Strong systems thinking, with the ability to connect individual interactions across broader journeys, platforms, or ecosystems. Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners such as Product, Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Analytics. Experience with, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn, AI, personalization, machine learning, or data-informed product experiences. Strong prototyping skills, with the ability to use prototypes to explore interactions, communicate ideas, and evaluate product directions. Strong communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to articulate design rationale and influence cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders. Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, evolving product spaces while maintaining a high bar for craft and execution. Front-end, full-stack, creative-technology, or design-technologist experience.
