Position Overview
The Accounts Receivable (A/R) Technician performs accurate and timely A/R functions to support the financial operations of the Tribal Health Program. This position posts payments, reconciles accounts, monitors aging, and conducts follow-up activities to ensure clean financial data and support overall revenue cycle performance. Experience working in Tribal health systems is strongly preferred. Familiarity with healthcare billing systems is required; experience with RPMS is preferred but not required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Posts payments, adjustments, and denials in accordance with organizational policies
· Reviews A/R aging reports and performs timely follow-up on outstanding balances
· Reconciles deposits, remittances, and payment batches
· Identifies payer trends, underpayments, and denial patterns
· Works with internal billing and coding staff to resolve discrepancies within established workflows
· Escalates cross-department issues through the designated supervisor
· Utilizes the organization’s practice management or billing system to verify charges, payments, and claim status
· Supports month-end reconciliation and financial close processes
· Maintains accurate documentation to support audits and internal controls
· Ensures compliance with HIPAA, Tribal policies, and applicable federal regulations
Minimum Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred
· Two (2) years of accounts receivable or healthcare revenue cycle experience
· Experience working in Tribal health systems strongly preferred
· Experience with healthcare billing or practice management systems required
· RPMS experience preferred
· Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Strong understanding of healthcare A/R processes and payer requirements
· Ability to interpret EOBs, ERAs, and payer remittance information
· High attention to detail and accuracy in financial work
· Strong organizational and time-management skills
· Effective communication within assigned workflows and supervisory direction
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
Additional Requirements
· Must pass a background check and meet all Tribal employment eligibility requirements.
· Must maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA regulations.
· May require occasional travel for training or meetings
