Responsibilities
- Build AI agents that complete operational workflows and write actions to systems of record with audit trails.
- Create shared stateful agent experiences across voice, SMS, web chat, and email.
- Build compliant outbound workflows for collections, abandoned-cart follow-up, lead follow-up, and renewals.
- Implement guardrails for payments and tenant records, including confirmation, idempotency, scope limits, and human escalation.
- Integrate agents with legacy APIs using authentication, retries, timeouts, validation, and durable writes.
- Own agents from pilot through production using evaluation sets, regression runs, tracing, and operational metrics.
- Analyze traces, transcripts, failures, and user outcomes to improve completion, reliability, latency, and cost.
- Use AI-assisted development and testing tools and collaborate with product, design, operations, and engineering teams.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on production software engineering experience building, deploying, monitoring, and operating backend services.
- Experience shipping at least one LLM-backed feature to real users and explaining its failures, measurement, and improvement.
- Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve quality, speed, or reliability.
- Strong backend and API integration skills, including authentication, webhooks, retries, timeouts, idempotency, validation, and durable writes.
- Experience building multi-step stateful workflows or services that manage conversation state, call external tools, handle failures, and support human escalation.
- Practical experience with tool or function calling, retrieval-augmented generation, structured model outputs, context management, prompt or context design, or agent-workflow orchestration.
- Experience evaluating and observing nondeterministic systems through task-success measurement, tool-call tracing, cost and latency control, and safe human escalation.
- Experience testing nondeterministic systems and measuring task success, containment, escalation, latency, and inference cost.
- Ability to work onsite in the Seattle, Washington area 2–3 days per week.
- Bonus experience with tenant-specific configuration, sensitive data, permissions, auditability, or security-sensitive workflows.
- Bonus experience with real-time voice systems, streaming speech, telephony or SIP, messaging providers, PCI-scoped payment flows, consent management, or regulated communications.
- Bonus experience with Redis, PostgreSQL, queues, durable workflow engines, event-driven systems, TypeScript, Go, Python, Twilio, LangChain, LangGraph, or Semantic Kernel.
