Finance Director

Client Overview: Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and communities through innovative programs and strategic partnerships. Their organization manages a diverse portfolio of government and private foundation grants and is committed to operational excellence, financial stewardship, and sustainable growth. They are currently looking to add a Finance Director to their team. Salary/Hourly Rate $55/hr - $60/hr $110k - $125k (Permanent) Position Overview: The Finance Director will play a critical leadership role in overseeing grant accounting, nonprofit finance operations, Medicaid Redesign Program (MRP) revenue cycle activities, and strategic financial initiatives. This Finance Director will devote approximately 70% to 80% of their time to Finance, Grants, and Medicaid Redesign Program revenue cycle functions, with the remaining 20% to 30% focused on strategic initiatives and executive-level financial support. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical finance professional with extensive nonprofit and grant management experience, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to provide actionable financial insights to executive leadership. Responsibilities of the Finance Director: Oversee the financial management and accounting of a complex portfolio of government, foundation, and other grant-funded programs. Ensure compliance with grant agreements, funding requirements, and reporting deadlines. Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports for executive leadership and external funders. Manage Medicaid Redesign Program revenue cycle processes and related financial reporting activities. Monitor grant expenditures, budgets, reimbursements, and revenue recognition. Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts. Collaborate with program leaders to ensure appropriate financial management of funded initiatives. Develop and strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures. Lead strategic financial initiatives and provide executive support on special projects and organizational priorities. Serve as a key liaison with funders, auditors, and internal stakeholders. Required Experience/Skills for the Finance Director: Minimum of 6 - 8 years of progressive grant accounting and/or nonprofit finance experience. Demonstrated experience managing complex grant portfolios. Direct experience preparing financial and operational reports for executive leadership. Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial management principles and grant compliance requirements. Familiarity with private foundation funding requirements. Direct experience working with New York City and New York State funding agencies and requirements, including DFTA, DYCD, OTDA, and other municipal and state funders. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Advanced proficiency with financial reporting and budget management. Preferred Experience/Skills for the Finance Director: Familiarity with PASSPort. Familiarity with New York State Grants Gateway. Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance. Experience supporting organizational strategic initiatives and executive-level decision-making. Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business is required.
