About the Job Residential and Community Life are core components of the UMNMorris student experience — 90% of first-years and 50% of allstudents live on-campus, without a housing requirement. TheWellbeing Area Coordinator provides oversight for and manages 2-4Residential Life buildings/areas and supervises 10-15 student staffmembers. They establish and help to sustain welcoming, inclusiveresidential communities that foster student wellbeing and successand advance the campus mission, vision, and strategic plan. Thisposition collaborates with the Student Life CARE and Academic AlertTeams, assisting with student support and case management.Responsibilities may evolve to meet emerging campus needs andutilize the successful candidate’s strengths, skills, andinterests. This 12-month, annually renewable live-in ,academic professional appointment (9703RLResidential LifeProfessional 2) reports to the Residential and Community LifeAssociate Director. This position will live in an on-campus apartment and have ameal plan. Job Duties Community Life Development and Residential Life Programs and Operations (35%) Develop and assist with implementing Residential Life studentengagement programs and initiatives encouraging student learning,persistence, and success. Mentor and assist student staff in developing engaging programson timely, relevant topics (e.g., making friendships, healthy timemanagement, increasing intercultural competencies, practicingproblem-solving skills, adopting wellbeing practices, engaging withmental and physical health resources, utilizing academic supportresources) that show a responsiveness to student needs. Teach a Morris 1101 college transition and success coursesection (1 credit); engage with the Morris 1101 instructor group;serve as a primary University staff resource and mentor forapproximately 15 first-year students (Master’s degreerequired). Promote and encourage resident engagement in Residential Lifeand University programs, as well as support and attend key campusprograms, meetings, and activities (e.g., Campus Assembly, theHealing Ceremony, Homecoming, the Undergraduate Research Symposium,Honors and Awards, Commencement). Solicit residents’ feedback on their experience, areaprogramming, and community building. Ensure program tracking,assist with on-going program assessment/ evaluation. Maintain availability and accessibility to area residentsthrough office hours, community walk-throughs, and resource sharingabout Welcome Week and move-in, food resources during Universitybreaks, and preparation for closing. Work with University departments and services to design orcollaborate on programming initiatives and campus resources forresidential life students. Participate actively in ORL weekly meetings, Student Affairsdivision meetings, shared University governance opportunities, andcampus-wide initiatives that require Residential Liferepresentation and/or knowledge. Serve in the Student Life On‑Call rotation with otherResidential Life and Student Affairs professional staff(approximately 2–3 weeks per semester). Assist in developing and implementing wellbeinginitiatives. Address resident or community conflict, including the use ofmediation, dialogue, talking circles, forums, or other restorativejustice practices. Serve as an informal hearing officer for lower‑levelResidential Life policy violations. Collaborate with the Housing Operations Coordinator on roomchanges, emergency housing needs, and occupancy management withinassigned residential areas. Represent Residential and Community Life at campus events suchas Admitted Student Day, New Student Orientation, and StudentEmployment Fair. Lead the summer residential experience; providecamps/conferences operations support. Meet regularly with the Housing Operations Coordinator toensure responsible management of program and activitybudgets. Residential Life Student Staff Supervision & Development (35%) Supervise 10-15 student Community Development Assistants,Building Advisors, and Community Advisors. Foster a supportive,growth‑oriented learning environment. Support facilitation of weekly area staff meetings; conductbi‑weekly one-on-one meetings with student staff. Develop and lead ongoing leadership development workshops,training, and learning activities; assist with all aspects of Falland January Student Staff Training. Provide consistent student staff mentorship, feedback, andperformance evaluation. Participate in student staff recruitment, interviewing, andselection. Serve as a resource on university and ORL policies, procedures,and expectations. Wellness Coordination & Case Management Support (30%) Provide lower‑to mid‑level case management support forstudents experiencing academic, personal, social, or wellbeingchallenges. Assist students in navigating campus resources related tomental health, basic needs, academic support, identity‑basedsupport, and wellbeing. In consultation with the Associate Director, assist CARE Team,Alert Team and other partners with resident wellness checks;provide appropriate follow-up and resources.. Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Student Affairs,Student Counseling, Student Success Center, Health Services,Equity, Diversity & Intercultural Programs, One Stop StudentServices) to coordinate care and support student success. Maintain accurate documentation of student interactions,referrals, and follow‑up plans in accordance with universityprotocols. Identify trends in student needs; contribute to proactivewellbeing programming and resource development. Support basic‑needs: food access, emergency housing, andresource referrals. Lead and collaborate with campus/community partners on wellnessinitiatives and events (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and otherdrug prevention/education, bystander education, and violenceprevention.) Qualifications Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor’s degree plus at least one year of relevantexperience Knowledge of residential life operations in a college oruniversity setting Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communicationskills Ability to work collaboratively, with empathy, professionalism,and sound judgment Ability to work with diverse populations and create welcoming,inclusive environments Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Master’s degree in Education, Student Counseling, Social Work,Public Health, Health Promotion, Public Administration, or relatedfields (Master’s required for teaching) Student or professional experience in residential life, studentaffairs, or a related field Training and/or experience in student development, communitybuilding, wellbeing practices, basic‑needs support, conflictresolution, and sustainability Experience with on‑call response, mental health support,non-clinical case management, or care coordination Familiarity with student conduct, restorative justice, andcritical incident response Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $42,000 - $49,000 annually; depending oneducation/qualifications/experience.
