Here you'll lead amazing engineers as they invent the technologies, products and services that help our service members, intelligence analysts and first responders keep our nation safe.The Strategic Weapons Control (SWC) program provides mission-critical capabilities to our customer's Ohio/Vanguard and Columbia/Dreadnought class submarines including tactical Fire Control, auxiliary, and training systems. We apply advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, AR/VR, Cloud Native and Quantum Physics to solve our customers' missions in cyber, RF, undersea, interstellar and everything in between.Duties and tasks include:Providing leadership in defining technology, tool and process strategy across a technical domainOverall responsibility for the engineering aspects of a technical domain, to include the acquisition of critical resourcesDirecting, coordinating, and exercising functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering efforts within area of responsibilityCapable of identifying project risks, assessing issues and developing resolutions that meet cost, schedule productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectivesReviewing status of projects and budgets, managing schedules, and preparing status reportsDeveloping mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, clients and other stakeholdersServing as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line managementSelecting, developing, and evaluating personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the functionHandling personnel issues within area of responsibility including merit planning, performance reviews and disciplinary actionsParticipating in development of technical strategies and teaming strategies in technical domainParticipating in the proposal process, including the development of executable project plans on proposalsEnsuring process compliance of all engineering activity in area of responsibilityLeading specific process improvement activitiesDetermining and implementing the organizational training needs in accordance with the requirements of the technical domainEnsuring that domain engineers are active in developing risk mitigation plans and managing their risk profilesMay have budget responsibilitiesFrequently interacts with subordinate supervisors and employeesCommunicates regularly with project customer, and suppliers, project team, and internal managementRegular contact with all other personnel in area of responsibilityReceives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goalsProvides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policiesRecommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s)Expected to manage work, set objectives and meet commitments for self and othersDelegates assignments to others for developing solutionsKnowledge, skills and abilities include:Strong leadership skillsApplies or develops highly advanced technologies, principles, theories and conceptsStrong written and verbal communications skills, bridges communication across teamsStrong ability to think creativelyStrong ability to multi-task, skilled at executing complex tasksStrong ability in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actionsStrong ability to understand and apply project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM)Strong experience in driving continuous improvement in Engineering process and toolsWorks collaboratively with resources external to the functional or program teamResponsible for establishing and achieving operational objectives for a moderately complex function, program or program scopeExpected to integrate complex activitiesStrong proficiency at all responsibilities associated with the positionStrong ability to recruit, manage and retain peopleTypically has strong experience in this area of expertiseUnderstands, evaluates and guides the focus of all activities in a technical domainRecognized internally and externally as an expert in their fieldDemonstrates consistently high ratings on People CommitmentsTravel may be requiredErroneous decisions or recommendations may have long-term effects and may affect the image of the company's capabilityIdentifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovationOur commitment to you includes:An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.Research oriented work, alongside award winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation's securityFlexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule)Competitive benefits, including 401k matching, flex time off, paid parental leave, healthcare benefits, health & wellness programs, employee resource and social groups, and moreSee more at gdmissionsystems.com/careers/why-work-for-us/benefitsWorkplace options: This position is fully on-site in Pittsfield, MA.
