SUMMARY:

The Accounting Assistant, under general supervision, provides support for the State Accounting Manager. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Applies, interprets, and communicates policies and procedures and serves as a resource for answering questions regarding policies. Maintains a variety of fiscal and administrative records. Posts information to agency records and modifies forms or records. Verifies, processes, and reviews forms, reports, and other documents. Performs reconciliations of various funds and accounts. Assists with various reporting obligations performed by accounting. Completes other required tasks as assigned. Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities. Responsible for data entry and edits in USAS (Uniform Statewide Accounting System) Responsible for reconciliation and clearing of outstanding items in Revolving account. Responsible for timely and accurate submission of tuition remission, and sales tax remittance. Responsible for review of departmental deposits and related follow up on any issues. Assists State Accounting Manager with duties imperative to the department’s function Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Four (4) years of related experience. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Degree Preferred. Experience in higher education. Knowledge of and experience with Famis, Cascade (or Word Press) and Banner.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

May supervise and assist with training student workers.
