Network Fiber Technician - Outside Plant - Omaha, NE Job Category: Construction Requisition Number: NETWO010047 Posted : July 6, 2026 Full-Time On-site Locations Omaha WHS, Omaha, NE 68127, USA Overview We have an immediate opening for a Network Fiber Technician - Outside Plant in Omaha, NE. As a Network Fiber Technician you will be responsible for terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing all fiber optic cables and related equipment to maximize operating efficiency. The role involves outdoor responsibilities and exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Key Responsibilities Perform all setup, testing and maintenance required for customer premise equipment (CPE) installation of POTS, DSL and networking services Install and maintain CPE local area networks (LAN) and WiFi networks Install and maintain network interface devices (NID) and optical network terminals (ONT) Perform troubleshooting from the main distribution frame (MDF) to the demarcation point, including CPE Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable company time‑frame standards Install outside plant (OSP) facilities according to engineered work orders or service orders Perform routine preventive maintenance and major repairs to distribution systems Perform cable and fiber testing and splicing Locate fiber optic cabling Record and report all changes immediately Complete inventory replenishment requests as needed Perform other duties as assigned Available to travel for training as needed Available to work overtime and on‑call rotation duties after regular business hours as required Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or GED One to two years of experience in the telecommunications industry or related field Some trade‑school training is desired Ability to be professional with customers and fellow associates Meet key performance metrics Physical ability to work in various conditions, including adverse weather, kneeling or standing for long periods, climbing ladders up to 25 feet, and lifting loads up to 75 pounds Ability to use basic hand tools and specialized equipment with training Operate and maintain company vehicle or equipment safely, including DOT‑certified bucket truck and trailer Willingness to work as a team and independently Availability to work overtime, holidays and weekends as needed Total Rewards and Perks 80 percent of medical premiums paid by the company Company‑paid disability and life insurance Employee assistance program (EAP) 401(k) with company match dollar‑for‑dollar up to 6 percent Equipment and resources provided on day one Opportunities for advancement Associate perks and discounts Discounted MetroNet service in our serviceable area Paid training at MetroNet University Company vehicle and fuel card DOT certification OSHA certification On‑call pay Equal Opportunity Employer Metronet is an equal opportunity employer.
