The Nursing Assistant assists the School Nurse by carrying out assigned duties that support the operation of the Health Room.


Qualifications:

1. Education: High School Diploma
2. Certification:
3. Valid CPR Certification
4. Valid First Aid Certification
5. License : Valid Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or evidence of working toward licensure and equivalent experience.

5. Knowledge of current Commonwealth of Pennsylvania nursing standards.
6. Ability to utilize current software/technology packages and related equipment.

Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Primary: Health Room
   1. Assist School Nurse in maintaining and completing all required health charts and reports.
   2. Assist with screening students for the maintenance of health records.
   3. Maintain and update dental records and physical health records.
   4. Organize the flow of the Health Room during school Physical and Dental exams.
   5. Transcribe health records and organize records into class lists.
   6. Prepare data entry for confidential list and immunizations.
   7. Alphabetize immunization cards and emergency forms
   8. Assist students who are ill.
   9. Contact parents regarding an ill child or health record questions.
   10. Organize daily medication log and administer medications when the School Nurse is unavailable.
   11. Organize BMI labels and mailings and prepare purchase orders.
   12. Organize medicine cabinets.
   13. Prepare letters regarding health records and physical exams.
   14. Accompany an injured student to the hospital when the parent is unavailable.
   15. Assist the School Nurse in obtaining health records for new students upon enrollment.
   16. Assist School Nurse in processing health records for students transferring in or out of the district.
   17. Write out Physical and Dental reminder/permission forms.
   18. Communicate with parents in regards to health issues.
   19. Assist with inventory and distribution of supplies.
   20. Copy employee health records and updates for Go-Bag.
   21. Do head lice checks.
   22. Answer the phone.
   23. Cover the Health Room when the School Nurse is at meetings.
2. Primary: Office
   1. Cover the main office as needed.
   2. Answer routine questions for visitors and direct phone calls.
   3. Transcribe pick-up notes and confer with teachers.
   4. Handle parent pick-up.
   5. Assist with bus duty.
   6. Do laminate and copy work, assist with typing state and district forms and reports.
   7. Assist with data entry for enrollments.
   8. Sort and distribute mail and bulletins.
   9. Keep necessary student and employee records up to date and prepare all necessary transcripts and reports on students.
   10. Assist as directed with all student attendance forms.
   11. Assist in the collection of assignments of ill students.
   12. File information as directed.
   13. Assist with the inventory of supplies and the distribution of supplies within the building.
   14. Other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear (40 decibel maximum) and verbally communicate.

Work Environment:

The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud, depending on the activity in the particular part of the day.

Terms of Employment:

Salary, work year, and other terms and conditions of employment as established by contract between Whitehall-Coplay School District, Superintendent, and the Whitehall-Coplay School District Board of Directors.

1. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry, or convey sufficient weight to safely and effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities.

3. Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support.
