Job Summary: The Finish Fabricator is responsible for the final fabrication, fitting, and installation of critical driver components and cockpit systems on NASCAR race vehicles. This position performs precision fabrication, bracket and rail construction, seat mounting, steering column fabrication, carbon fiber mold creation, and interior panel fabrication while ensuring all work complies with NASCAR rules and technical specifications. Working closely with drivers, crew chiefs, engineers, and fabrication personnel, the Finish Fabricator customizes each vehicle to maximize driver comfort, safety, ergonomics, and competitive performance. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Duties and Responsibilities: Perform MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding operations on race vehicle components. Fabricate, modify and install seat rails, seat brackets, mounting systems and related driver support components. Build, fit and install aluminum leg boards, interior panels and cockpit components. Fabricate steering columns and related assemblies that meet NASCAR regulations and team specifications. Construct molds for carbon fiber components and assist with composite fabrication process. Trim, fit, fabricate and install foam, upholstery and interior materials to optimize driver comfort and ergonomics. Build and finish driver cockpit assemblies that optimize driver safety, comfort, ergonomics, and performance while meeting all NASCAR and team engineering requirements. Work directly with drivers to customize seating positions, steering wheel location, pedal placement, visibility and overall cockpit ergonomics. Interpret and apply NASCAR rule book requirements to ensure fabricated components remain compliant throughout the build process. Weld components in various positions such as flat, overhead, and vertical. Operate fabrication equipment including grinders, drills, band saws, cold saws, hydraulic punches, sand blasters, acetylene torches, drill presses, and other shop equipment. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, fabrication prints and technical specifications /schematics to determine welding measurements, positions, and specifications. Layout, measure, cut, grind, shape, trim, and fit components using appropriate fabrication tools and equipment to ensure precise assembly and fitment. Verify dimensions, tolerances, alignment and fitment throughout the fabrication process. Adhere to quality control standards, performing necessary testing to ensure product integrity. Maintain production schedules while supporting vehicle build timelines. Perform final inspections to ensure structural integrity, functionality, appearance, and compliance with team quality standards. Troubleshoot fabrication and fitment issues, perform functional testing as needed, and recommend improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and performance. Document and report product malfunctions or issues. Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment. Follow all shop safety procedures and organizational policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Abilities: Advanced MIG and TIG welding skills. Strong fabrication and metal finishing skills. Experience fabricating precision brackets, mounting systems, and structural components. Ability to fabricate components requiring close tolerances and exceptional attention to detail. Working knowledge of NASCAR technical rules and fabrication requirements. Understanding of race vehicle ergonomics and driver fitment principles. Experience building molds and supporting carbon fiber fabrication is preferred. Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, engineering prints, and technical specifications. Proficiency using fabrication shop equipment and precision measuring tools. Ability to measure accurately using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other precision instruments. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet aggressive production deadlines. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with fabrication, engineering, and competition personnel. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Eagerness to learn and adapt quickly. High attention to detail and accuracy in all work performed. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum 2 years of fabrication experience, preferably in a motorsports environment. Basic computer skills to operate and record measurements using a Romer arm. Preferred certifications: AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel; and AWS D1.3 Structural Welding Code – Sheet Steel. Exceptional MIG and TIG welding skills. Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds as needed. Must be able to crawl in and out of vehicles.
