Veterinary Ophthalmologist Part-Time

Position Overview Part‑time Board Certified or Residency Trained Ophthalmologist position with predictable hours and a consistent home hospital assignment. The role allows for flexibility while maintaining clinical engagement and continuity of care within a locally led team supported by national resources. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Communicate and educate clients Maintain accurate medical records Handle pharmacy duties, including prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor hospital protocols from intake to discharge Attend daily rounds to uphold high standards when possible Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform additional duties as assigned by Management Qualifications (Required) Veterinary degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university One‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or ER (university or large referral practice) Completed a 3‑year, AVMA approved residency program Current State Veterinary License DEA registration obtained and maintained Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Team‑oriented work ability Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care Effective communication with Medical and Hospital staff Client communication skills, including rapport building and clear explanations Ability to handle pets experiencing stress, illness, or pain with confidence and reassurance Physical capability to perform moderately demanding work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Board Certification 2 to 5 years of post‑residency experience Demonstrated clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations; ability to diagnose and prescribe appropriate treatments Problem‑solving skills for high‑quality veterinary hospital management Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff Professionalism and willingness to provide and receive constructive feedback Business acumen regarding veterinary hospital management and finances Understanding of ethical principles guiding patient decisions Commitment to continuing education and facilitating learning for others Benefits Signing and retention incentives up to $50,000 CE stipend Licensing and dues reimbursement 401(k) participation Team member pet discounts Emotional wellbeing support, including Calm app access and 24/7 EAP Supportive home hospital environment backed by national resources Pay Range $85,000 - $100,000 USD Contact Information Email resume to Julia Stephens at View email address on click.appcast.io EEO Statement PetVet is an equal opportunity employer.
