Job Summary
The Durand Area School District is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a Substitute Bus Driver. This a on call position with the potential of a route in the future, it is essential to ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and various school-related activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to student safety, excellent driving skills, and a friendly demeanor to foster positive interactions with students, parents, and staff.
- Safely operate a school bus on designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized bus interior, ensuring a safe environment for all passengers.
- Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations among students while on the bus.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and any issues that may arise.
- Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel promptly.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings to stay updated on safety protocols and district policies.
- Complete necessary documentation, including route logs and incident reports, as required.
- Provide support during school events and field trips as needed. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement and air brakes.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
- Previous experience driving a bus or similar vehicle preferred, but not required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact positively with students and staff.
- Ability to manage student behavior and enforce safety protocols.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening as required by the school district.
- Availability to work early mornings, afternoons, and occasional evenings or weekends for special events.
- First Aid and CPR certification is a plus but can be obtained upon hiring.
