Registered Nurse (RN) PICU

We are in search of a Registered Nurse for the PICU at Main Campus for DAYSHIFT . Someone who excels in fast-paced learning with dynamic flexibility in a critical care setting. This position encompasses direct nursing care to critically ill patients, while ensuring safety and comfort, within our family centered care model. PICU Cohorts Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes. 9 LT: Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU that encompasses post liver & kidney transplants, trauma patients, seizure disorder patients, and post-operative patients. 10 LT: MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients. 11 LT: MICU that encompasses a mix of medical-surgical patients. 12 LT: Transitional ICU is a unique cohort that focuses on our chronic, technology dependent patients who need intense education with the patient and family before discharging home. As a PICU nurse, you will work with patients in each cohort. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in nursing or an associate’s degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required + signed agreement. Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS American Heart Association certification are required. 9 months of professional nursing experience. The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills. Demonstrate good time and resource management skills. Demonstrate flexibility. Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Operate unit specific equipment. Able to work nights. Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age‑appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner. Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problems, and detects changes in patient status. Re‑prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient’s condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record. Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate. Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching. Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members. Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner. Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
