Field Service Technician/Electrical - Detroit, MI

Overview The Customer Engineer (CE) is responsible for installation, commissioning, scheduled and emergency service of Vertiv’s UPS, Power Distribution Units, other Power Products, and Battery system products (2-120 KVA). The role requires classroom and on‑the‑job training. Responsibilities Perform service tasks as assigned and in accordance with company policies and procedures. Work independently or under supervision based on training completion. Render on‑site and phone assistance to customers. Communicate with Technical Support regarding technical or procedural issues. Implement Field Change Notices per published guidelines. Stay current on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, Service Tips, and other relevant documentation. Operate safely following published safety guidelines. Maintain and operate company vehicle in accordance with local laws and company policy. Wear appropriate PPE as outlined by company guidelines. Adhere to the 14‑hour rule and other work‑hours policy guidelines. Complete required Vertiv safety training assignments on time. Follow on‑site customer safety requirements where applicable. Report all work‑related accidents or injuries within 24 hours to the appropriate personnel. Complete accurate and timely administrative tasks such as timecards, expense reports, mileage reports, and service reports. Maintain individual inventory and perform cycle counts in accordance with company policy. Maintain company property (vehicle, credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop, etc.) per company policies. Provide clear and sufficient communication to internal and external customers. Deliver estimated time of arrival to the customer where applicable. Complete scheduled maintenance documentation and provide it to the customer and local office upon completion. Strive to deliver a “first‑time fix” for customer equipment. Maintain customer satisfaction rates per company guidelines. Attend customer meetings as required. Maximize productivity by consolidating service opportunities. Complete all technical and administrative work efficiently and timely. Make technical and commercial decisions under pressure. Evaluate site and equipment for appropriate billing status. Maintain productive utilization rates per company guidelines. Perform inventory cycle counts per company guidelines. Adhere to the company dress code and safety regulations. Meet or exceed on‑site response time requirements for each customer. Understand and comply with company startup/escalation processes and procedures. Maintain proper and adequate internal communications. Qualifications ASEET or AMEET, or progress toward certification, preferred. 4+ years of military experience in a related technical field. 2+ years of relevant industry experience. Strong interpersonal and administrative skills: professional written and verbal communication; time‑management; collaboration with peers, customers, suppliers, and leadership; timely completion of administrative tasks. Technical skills: basic site‑evaluation (temperature, operating conditions), familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment and fundamentals, adherence to written technical documentation, elementary fix/repair techniques under supervision, completion of service tasks to return units to full operating condition, summary and reporting of work, proficiency with PC and associated applications (Microsoft Office, Vertiv software, etc.). Working Conditions Travel is required. Flexibility for weekends, evenings, and holidays is expected. A valid driver’s license is required. Candidates must pass a drug test, a pre‑employment background check, and a motor vehicle records check before employment. Physical Requirements Daily duties include standing, walking, using hands and fingers, handling or feeling objects, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasionally crawling. Tasks also involve sitting and climbing or balancing. Visual requirements include close, distant, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
