Circulation Assistant

Job Details Job Location: Emory, VA 24327 Position Type: Part Time Staff Education Level: High School Salary Range: $12.00 - $13.00 Hourly Job Category: Education Position Purpose (Essential Functions) This permanent part-time position is responsible for the staffing of the circulation desk, primarily during evening and weekend hours, and for the duties which provide support to the circulation processes. Duties and Responsibilities Staff circulation desk during scheduled times, primarily evening and weekend hours when the University is in session. Perform all regular circulation procedures including: Checking-in and checking-out material, renewing overdue items, searching for and finding requested items. Respond to patron requests and issue community borrower cards. Answering and directing telephone queries Handling small amounts of money collected for charges associated with copying, lamination, etc. Opens and closes the library. Perform shelving and stacks maintenance. Other library tasks as assigned Requires Education & Experience Education High school diploma or equivalent (REQUIRED) Associates degree or higher (preferred) Library experience (preferred) Skills Computer skills – basic keyboarding skills, experience with Microsoft Office Suite Customer service skills Ability to pay attention to details Ability to maintain confidentiality Working and Environmental Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Scheduling work hours for this position will be done at the beginning of each school semester and may change for optimum coverage at the circulation desk. This position is mainly responsible for regular evening coverage (staying nightly until midnight) as well as Sunday evenings. Occasionally the circulation assistant may be asked to make temporary schedule changes to cover for absences or for special events.
