Sr. Engineer Project Manager, Aviation & Airfield Design

Position Overview Woolpert is hiring an Engineer Project Manager to join our dynamic Aviation team. The Engineer Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing the design, planning, and execution of aviation and airfield projects. This role involves overseeing the preparation of technical documents, coordinating with key stakeholders such as the FAA and project sponsors, and ensuring projects are completed within scope, schedule, and budget. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, project management, and experience with FAA regulations. This position may be based in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, or Tennessee. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located. Key Responsibilities Lead the development of construction plans, contract documents, and technical reports. Define project scopes, prepare fee proposals, manage budgets, and coordinate resources to ensure timely, on‑budget project delivery. Oversee project schedules and deliver monthly invoicing and detailed Project Status Reports to clients. Support or lead new sales initiatives. Serve as the main point of contact for sponsors, the FAA, and other key stakeholders. Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and schedules, and document outcomes to ensure alignment and progress throughout the project lifecycle. Review client‑provided documents, including as‑builts and design reports, coordinate subconsultants for surveys, geotechnical investigations, and other technical requirements. Ensure all projects comply with federal, state, and local grant application processes, as well as environmental regulations. Manage the bidding process by organizing pre‑bid meetings, preparing addenda, and reviewing bid proposals. Oversee change orders, conduct site visits during construction, and ensure quality standards are met. Review and approve final engineering drawings, summarize project costs, and conduct final inspections with the FAA and sponsors to ensure successful project completion. Lead cross‑functional teams through all phases of project development. Build and maintain client relationships by identifying growth opportunities during the proposal and RFP/RFQ process. Collaborate with management on client satisfaction, risk management, and financial performance, while providing mentorship and guidance to team members.
