Laboratory Intern

Position Title: Laboratory Intern Location: Onsite at Canyon Labs in Bluffdale, UT Hourly Pay Rate: $16.00 - $18.00 / Hour Position Summary The Laboratory Intern will support both the Microbiology and Packaging Laboratory teams in executing routine testing, preparing materials, and maintaining laboratory operations. This role provides hands‑on experience in a regulated laboratory environment and exposure to microbiological methods and package testing in accordance with ISO 17025, GLP (21 CFR Part 58), and applicable industry standards. The intern will assist with study execution, media preparation, documentation, and data integrity practices while developing foundational laboratory and compliance skills. Primary Responsibilities Microbiology Laboratory Support Assist with preparation of microbiological media following approved procedures Support labeling, storage, and inventory management of media and supplies Learn and assist with aseptic techniques under supervision Support environmental monitoring activities (e.g., viable air sampling, particulate monitoring) Wash, prepare, and maintain laboratory glassware Assist with cleaning and disinfection of microbiology lab areas Observe sterilization processes (e.g., autoclave operation) in accordance with SOPs Packaging Laboratory Support Assist in executing package testing protocols following GDP and GLP requirements Support preparation of test samples and materials for studies Gather project‑related information (e.g., emails, questionnaires, study documentation) Assist in documenting test results and observations Support preparation of study summaries and final reports Identify and communicate issues encountered during testing Documentation & Data Integrity Accurately record data in laboratory notebooks and systems under supervision Learn and apply ALCOA+ data integrity principles (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate, Complete, Consistent, Enduring, Available) Assist with data entry into systems such as LIMS or tracking tools Maintain organized, complete, and accurate records Compliance & Quality Follow all applicable SOPs, safety procedures, and GLP requirements Identify and report deviations, discrepancies, or safety concerns to supervisors Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process inefficiencies Assist with updates to procedures and work instructions as needed Participate in training and onboarding activities Support internal and external audit readiness efforts Learning Objectives Through this internship, participants will: Gain exposure to both microbiology and packaging laboratory operations Develop foundational skills in aseptic technique and package testing methods Learn principles of GLP, ISO 17025, and data integrity (ALCOA+) Build professional skills in documentation, compliance, and teamwork Qualifications Education Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s Degree in a science‑related field (e.g., Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related discipline), OR Associate’s Degree with strong interest in laboratory sciences Preferred Experience Exposure to laboratory environments, medical device industry, or regulated settings Basic understanding of microbiological or package testing practices Familiarity with GLP (21 CFR Part 58) or ISO 17025 concepts Skills & Requirements Basic knowledge of laboratory safety practices Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions (SOPs, work instructions) Effective communication and teamwork skills Basic math proficiency Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and (preferred) Project Willingness to learn laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and regulatory requirements Self‑motivated with a strong desire to complete tasks thoroughly Laboratory setting with exposure to microbiological materials and testing equipment Requires adherence to PPE and safety protocols At Canyon Labs, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
