Intermediate Care Technician

Summary This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. The applicant may serve in a medical center, community‑based outpatient clinic (CBOC), or mobile medical unit. Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of the announcement (06/09/2026). Time‑in‑grade requirements apply as outlined. Specialized experience: one year of experience equivalent to the GS‑06 grade level in the Federal service, including administration of medications, specimen collection, and assisting clinical providers with surgical care. Duties Assist licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex and specialized care needs. Assist in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting. Perform treatments and interventions. Perform wound care (bandaging, application of dressings, wound measurements, and photo‑documentation of wounds). Assist with outpatient minor procedures and follow‑up care such as suture removal. Use medication administration skills to perform tasks such as intramuscular, oral, topical, and other routes. Assist licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments, and providing treatment during in‑person or virtual visits. Operate specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes. Collect a wide range of specimens and prepare them for transfer to the lab. Perform 12‑lead electrocardiograms. Provide patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. Conduct or assist with the training of personnel when appropriately trained, certified, and/or qualified. Perform observation‑based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Complete approved templates and tools, such as normal result notes and follow‑up treatment protocols established by the agency. Perform vital signs and point‑of‑care testing. Document actions, interventions, and procedures in the medical record. Work schedule: Monday–Friday 07:30–16:00 (or 08:00–16:30, 09:00–17:30).
