Staff AI Platform Engineer

Role Description

We are hiring a Staff AI Platform Engineer to build the execution layer for Supabase's internal AI systems. Supabase is building an AI-native internal operating system where AI carries a meaningful share of the operational load.

The execution layer is yours. You will:

• Build the platform that runs agents, including:
  • An event-triggered queue
  • A headless model-agnostic runtime
  • Durable state for work survival
  • A human review gate
  • Atomic rollback
  • Full logging of every prompt, tool call, and decision
• Build the evaluation layer to ensure trustworthiness.
• Develop agents for various tasks, from executive reporting to platform improvement.
• Enforce governance in code, ensuring:
  • Risk tiers
  • Least-privilege credentials
  • Decision audit logs
  • Human approval gates
• Design how the system contacts people, focusing on:
  • Hard interruption budgets
  • Message bundling
• Own the platform tooling, including:
  • The compiler and validator
  • Inventory integrity
• Compute operating measures from production data.
• Instrument the platform's return with a ledger for agent work absorption.

Qualifications

• Experience shipping production LLM agent systems.
• Ability to design evaluations, not just spot checks.
• Deep API work experience and knowledge of specific failure modes.
• Ownership of infrastructure end to end in Python on GCP.
• Understanding of how software contacts humans.

Requirements

• Public work in the space, such as open-source frameworks or evaluation harnesses.
• Experience with LLM observability and cost instrumentation.
• Ability to build internal platforms that non-engineers adopt voluntarily.
