Overview Amentum is immediately hiring qualified Aircraft Power Plants Mechanic I’s in support of U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana Virginia Beach, VA. VFA‑106. The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti‑icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components that include rigging, surface controls, plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. The mechanic reads and interprets manufacturers’ and airline’s maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Key responsibilities include: Perform progressive, phase, periodic, and other hourly, conditional or calendar inspections. Examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders, oil leaks, and diagnose malfunctions such as sticking or burnt valves. Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, warping, wear, and missing segments. Inspect jet engine turbine blades for cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn‑out, security, or breaks, and test engine operation using equipment such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration tester. Replace or repair worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes. Remove engines from aircraft using hoist or forklift, disassemble and inspect parts, repair or replace defective parts, and reassemble and install engines. Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories. Perform preflight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight maintenance inspections. Service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft. Enter maintenance records and verify work performed satisfactorily. Service engines and airframe components at line station, perform repairs short of overhaul. Specialize in structural, precision, functional spare parts and assemblies, and engine repair. Requirements: Shift work required; detachments possible. High‑school graduate or equivalent with at least five years of aircraft maintenance experience at organizational level. Minimum three years of F/A‑18 aircraft maintenance experience, including three years as a F/A‑18 A‑F Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) or Quality Assurance Representative. Must obtain CDI within 30 days of promotion/hire date. Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver license (if North Carolina resident). Completed military Aviation Electronics Technician AD “A” School. Applicants must hold U.S. Navy 8341 NEC. Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required. Work performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes. Ability to read and interpret technical publications and safety rules. Self‑motivated and able to work with minimum supervision. Must meet physical requirements and pass medical examination related to assigned tasks. Will be required to pass U.S. Government background check and maintain a CAC card. U.S. citizenship required.
