To counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities Qualifications: Education/Certification:
• Minimum of a master's degree.
• A valid school counseling certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification for this position. Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
• Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data Experience:
• At least two years of teaching experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Guidance:
1. Delivers classroom guidance curriculum with the use of effective instructional skills and structured group sessions based on mandates and campus needs
2. Takes an active role in communicating the comprehensive school counseling program to students, parents, staff, and the community at large
3. Serves as a consultant to teachers who conduct lessons based on the school's/district's guidance and social and emotional learning (SEL) curricula
4. Advises students and their guardians regarding the importance of postsecondary education and coursework designed to prepare students for postsecondary education
5. Provides information to students and their guardians regarding career and technical education programs of study
6. Advises students and their guardians regarding endorsements, personal graduation plans, and the process of selecting courses Responsive Services:
7. Respects confidentiality
8. Remains available to students, providing counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity
9. Counsels individuals and small groups using appropriate counseling theories and techniques in response to students' needs
10. Coordinates resources referrals and follow-up procedures for students within the school and community
11. Provides counseling to students who are targeted, bystanders, or alleged perpetrators of bullying if requested by parents or principals Individual Planning:
12. Monitors and provides support for students at risk of not graduating with their cohorts
13. Aids students in course selection and personal graduation plans through evaluating pertinent records, assessments, student interests, and postsecondary plans
14. Facilitates and coordinates parent conferences
15. With the assistance of school staff, interprets standardized test results and other assessment data that assists students in making educational and career plans System Support:
16. Assists in the prevention and intervention of school dropouts by working cooperatively with teachers, administrators, and attendance officers
17. Consults teachers, advisory boards or councils, support specialists, and other personnel and volunteers regarding the needs of the students and the comprehensive school counseling program
18. Provides leadership and support for parent education programs and community relations efforts, including programs such as Partners for Positive Youth Development
19. Uses data to show the impact of the school counseling program on student achievement, attendance, and behavior
20. Works collaboratively to advocate for individual students and specific groups of students Professional Growth and Development:
21. Regularly attends Counseling and AVID department meetings
22. Attends grief-informed and trauma-informed intervention training
23. Seeks and attends training to develop the technology skills necessary to perform duties efficiently and effectively
24. Engages in continuous learning through professional reflection and active collaboration with colleagues
25. Remains current in the field by reading literature, attending professional meetings and conferences, and by discussing development and topics of mutual interest with others in the field of school counseling
26. Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by the Executive Director of Counseling Services or designee Supervisory Responsibilities:

Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; Posture: Sitting/standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions. District-wide and statewide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
