Production Superintendent - 2nd Shift (4:00 PM - 1:00 AM) Position Summary Our client is seeking a Production Superintendent to lead second shift operations in a high-volume food manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for directing plant production activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while delivering high-quality, food-safe products that meet all regulatory and customer requirements. The Production Superintendent provides hands-on leadership to supervisors and production teams, drives continuous improvement, and ensures alignment with company production schedules, safety standards, and performance goals. Schedule Second Shift: 4:00 PM - 1:00 AM, Monday through Friday
Occasional weekends as required Key Responsibilities Production and Operational Leadership
• Lead and coordinate second shift production to meet daily output, quality, and shipment targets
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate reporting
• Maintain proper product flow and coordinate closely with maintenance to optimize equipment uptime and productivity
• Drive production efficiency with a minimum target of 93 percent efficiency
• Plan and allocate manpower, equipment, and external resources to minimize downtime and operational losses
• Maintain accurate staffing levels to support production demands Safety and Regulatory Compliance
• Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment free of recognized hazards
• Ensure compliance with company safety audits, safety training requirements, inspections, and documentation
• Enforce compliance with USDA regulations and applicable food safety standards
• Ensure production processes meet or exceed regulatory and customer requirements
• Maintain awareness of customer-specific food safety standards and audit expectations Leadership and Team Development
• Directly manage and develop production supervisors
• Participate in selection, training, promotion, and performance management of supervisory staff
• Provide training and guidance on new equipment, updated processes, and food safety standards
• Foster a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Review daily shift production reports and provide actionable feedback
• Communicate effectively between shifts and across departments to ensure continuity, quality, and safety
• Encourage open communication and active listening across teams
• Partner with maintenance, quality, and operations leadership to resolve issues and improve performance Planning and Continuous Improvement
• Contribute to budgeting, capital expenditure recommendations, manpower forecasting, and space planning
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and optimize costs
• Support company profitability goals through disciplined production management Required Qualifications
• Minimum 4 years of leadership or managerial experience in a production or manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated experience leading teams in a manufacturing setting
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and food safety standards; USDA experience highly preferred
• Experience in food manufacturing strongly preferred
• Proven ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and manage multiple priorities
• Strong organizational and leadership skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Meat Science, Business, or related field
• Experience with budgeting, capital planning, and production cost optimization
• Familiarity with major food service or quick-service production standards
• Experience implementing process improvement and waste reduction initiatives Work Environment and Physical Requirements
• Work performed primarily on the production floor in a manufacturing environment
• Exposure to loud noise, strong odors, hot and cold temperatures, refrigerated and freezer environments
• Required use of personal protective equipment in designated areas
• Frequent standing and walking for extended periods
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques Compensation and Benefits
