JOB SUMMARY The Monitor – Domestic Violence provides security for the program and assists with the maintenance and implementation of the routine processes, projects and requirements of the program. Answers the program Domestic Violence Hotline, providing assistance and referrals to callers who may have been victims or are currently abused. This person will assist the program manager and supportive personnel in client supervision and maintenance of shelter operations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Domestic Violence Counseling Operate the program Domestic Violence Hotline under guidance and supervision of the Program Manager, providing crisis counseling and referrals to callers. Collaborate with case manager and program staff to assist service plans, required interventions, and participate in group and educational sessions. Transport program participants in the company vehicle to off‑site appointments as needed. Program Security Entrance monitoring: Permit only authorized persons to enter via the front door, record participant entry and exit as required. Bag and person screening: Search all participants’ belongings, including pockets, for signs of substance use or contraband; treat each participant with dignity and professionalism. Prevent and detect intrusion: Monitor premises, walk the floor, and report suspicious activities as required. Program Safety Observe premises for safe operations; report and correct spills, unsafe conditions, or defective equipment. Know fire exits and be prepared to assist participants during emergencies. Conduct room checks; maintain records of client compliance and assist clinical/case management staff. Call Police or Fire Department in emergencies such as fire, medical, psychiatric issues, or presence of unauthorized persons. Asset protection: Report all suspicious events, complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities such as theft or property damage. Role model: Act professionally and prioritize client needs at all times. Client/Participant Support Answer telephones and take messages for clients and staff, monitor doors and greet visitors. Maintain office housekeeping and ensure common areas, laundry, and restrooms are clean, disinfected, and operational. Record client self‑administration of medication per policies. Assist Program staff during service provision, including meal prep/serving, set‑up for classes, meetings, recreation, and other events. Input required data into computer systems and logs (EHR and other databases). Other duties as may arise to support the Program mission and goals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Position is on‑site only; daily work must be performed at the facility. Shelter security Monitor shelter entrance. Screen bags and persons entering shelter. Patrol premises on schedule. Shelter safety Monitor clients and conduct room checks; report rule violations. Observe safe operations and report safety concerns while patrolling. Asset protection Complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities such as theft or property damage. Client/participant support. Drive participants when required (requires license). Other duties as required; duties may change. Act as role model for participants at all times. MANDATED REPORTER All employees are considered mandated reporters and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities. QUALIFICATIONS Requirements: Pass a fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, references, and employment and education verifications. Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, potentially aggressive clients. Education: Domestic Violence counseling certificate (40‑hour class). Experience: Six months in the security field or six months providing social services as a worker or volunteer, or a combination totaling six months; a formal degree or certification in a related discipline can substitute. Preferred qualifications: AA or higher degree in related field. One year of experience working with victims of domestic violence. Bi‑lingual, Spanish and English preferred. Understanding of harm reduction (non‑abstinence) approach with participants’ substance use. Willingness to work with substance abuse clients, mental health, LGBTQ, and HIV/AIDS populations.
