Job Summary Allied Health Professional // Histo Tech – Onsite Contract (13 weeks, starts 7/20/2026). Weekly stipends $1,246; $15.00–$16.50/hour; base pay $600.0–$660. Day Shift: 8 hours/day, 5 days/week (6a–2:30p or 7a–3:30p). Location: Shreveport, LA 71103. Department: Laboratory Anatomical Pathology. Responsibilities Receives and accession surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens for routine tissue processing and subsequent microscopic examination. Embeds tissues in paraffin, cuts, stains, and labels slides; performs special procedures such as special stains, plastic procedures, immunoperoxidase, undecalcified bone processing, photography of gross specimens, and high‑complexity testing such as immunohistochemistry. Performs quality control procedures, develops new protocols, evaluates reagents and equipment, and follows test plans. Coordinates internal validations, teaches and advises staff, and provides ongoing education to laboratory personnel. Audits operations for quality control and serves as a consultant technician, assisting the Laboratory Supervisor as needed. Properly orients tissue in paraffin embedding medium and ensures all surfaces are embedded and sectioned on the same plane. Prepares tissue or slides for special procedures, including send‑outs, EM, IF, Cell Flow, cytogenetics, and manages packaging, transportation, documentation, and billing. Maintains an adequate supply of positive control slides and documents on the control tissue QC log. Assists in managing workload and productivity by adjusting schedules when necessary and completes requests from pathologists and supervisors within 24 hours. Cleans and maintains equipment (reagents, tissue processors, embedding center, microtomy, H&E and immunostainers) and documents QC as required. Adheres to safety guidelines and documents incidents appropriately. Adapts behavior to respect patient privacy, introduce to patients, adapt explanations, request permissions, and adjust communication style. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Physical/Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science. Minimum 2 years of experience in a histology laboratory. ASCP Histotechnologist (HTL) registration. Current Louisiana license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist – Specialist or Generalist. Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficient with Windows applications and keyboard usage. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally. Strong interpersonal skills. Physical and Environmental Demands Medium work involving occasional exertion of 20–50 pounds, frequent exertion of 10–25 pounds, and continuous exertion up to 10 pounds. Requires walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and lifting of objects. Must stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, stand or sit for prolonged periods, and travel between facilities.
