About the Office The Money Laundering, Narcotics and Forfeiture Section pursues criminal prosecutions and criminal and civil asset recovery actions involving financial facilitators, financial institutions, and international money launderers who support transnational organized crime and drug trafficking organizations. MNF leads the Department’s Asset Forfeiture Program, oversees the Assets Forfeiture Fund, administers the victim compensation program which has provided over \$12B in compensation, and supports equitable sharing with state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies. MNF provides expert guidance to Department leadership, other agencies, Congress, and foreign jurisdictions on asset forfeiture and anti‑money laundering litigation, policy, and legislation. Job Description As an Asset Forfeiture Fellow in the Money Laundering and Forfeiture Unit of MNF, the incumbent conducts and monitors investigations, prepares and conducts trials and related litigation, and advises on pleadings and other court filings in close consultation with Unit management and senior attorneys. Responsibilities Gain expertise in money laundering and forfeiture laws, supporting and leading financial investigations to dismantle money laundering organizations. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Section’s program to target financial facilitators and foster effective national investigation and prosecution of money laundering, including advising on strategy, legal complexities, and policy. Under guidance of unit management and senior prosecutors, lead and support the most complex investigations and prosecutions in federal courts nationwide; make charging decisions, propose dispositions, and address other challenges in compliance with Department, Division, and Section policies. Coordinate, deconflict, and partner with U.S. Attorneys and other federal law enforcement attorneys in the development and management of investigations and prosecutions of money laundering organizations; advise agents and attorneys on complicated legal and policy questions. Consult with, and brief, unit management, Section Chief, Principal Deputy Chief, Deputy Assistant Attorney General, and Assistant Attorney General on case status and matters related to enforcement against complex money laundering organizations. Help coordinate preparation and litigation assignments of paralegals and clerical personnel. Participate in outreach and training conducted by MNF trial attorneys throughout the United States and abroad. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree, be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia, and be an active member of the bar in good standing. To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree. To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) year of post‑J.D. legal experience. Specialized experience may include conducting legal research, drafting opinions and memoranda on criminal and civil matters, and assisting in disposition preparation. Applicants without one year of post‑J.D. experience may apply if they expect to have one by Fall 2026. To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have at least one and a half (1.5) years of post‑J.D. legal experience, including one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑12 level. Examples include performing legal analysis, formulating recommendations to senior managers, composing pleadings and briefs, and conducting civil or criminal litigation. Salary and Benefits $85,447 – $158,322 per year Travel: 25% or less – Periodic domestic and international travel required for cases, training, and inter‑agency coordination.
