Supporting the coding needs of a busy medical practice, the full-time remote Medical Coding Specialist will perform medical record coding activities, assign diagnostic codes, and ensure compliance with coding guidelines. Key responsibilities Abstract relevant clinical and demographic information to assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes accurately Maintain a coding accuracy of 97% based on internal quality assurance reviews Collaborate with medical staff to gather necessary diagnostic information and update coding procedures Required qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Completion of a course in medical record technology Minimum one year of medical coding experience required; three years preferred Applicable certification preferred Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems highly desirable
