Maintenance Mechanic

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for setting up, repairing, rebuilding, and installing production equipment to ensure continuous production of all products. This role involves repairing malfunctioning production equipment such as fillers, conveyors, drives, coolers, and palletizing and boxing components. Additionally, the mechanic installs new equipment or replaces existing equipment as needed and sets up the production line for product changeovers. As the primary technical leader on the shift, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and reducing downtime due to equipment failure. The role also includes assisting with the training of operators to recognize and report potential equipment malfunctions and ensure knowledge of preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Analyze mechanical and operational problems and initiate corrective action plans.
• Make necessary corrective repairs and running adjustments to maintain maximum production, safety, and quality.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild equipment such as mechanical drives, pneumatics, pumps, valves, and conveyors.
• Lead planned maintenance and troubleshooting to reduce equipment downtime.
• Assist with operator training for recognizing and reporting equipment malfunctions.
• Ensure proper setup for product changeovers.

Essential Skills

• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding liquid packaging machinery including fillers, bucket elevators, ovens, and palletizers.
• Electrical troubleshooting of 480v electric systems, 3 phase motors, and PLCs.
• Experience with preventive maintenance on beverage filling packaging equipment.
• Proficiency in pneumatics and hydraulics.
• Welding skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a line mechanic in a high-speed production environment, preferably in food manufacturing or bottling.
• Ability to use machine shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
• Ability to read mechanical diagrams.
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic controls and components.
• Experience in pipe fitting, welding, and machining.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Previous experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) or Lean Manufacturing is a plus.

Work Environment

Work on a 2-2-3 schedule from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm in a GMP-compliant food and beverage company. The work environment requires no jewelry, makeup, or long nails on the floor, with a casual attire policy.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dayton, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
