Summary

The Youth Apprentice - Production Associate I will be responsible for safely and efficiently constructing the walls, floors, and or trusses in a fast-paced production plant. This may involve operating semi-automated equipment, reading, and following blueprints, performing manual labor, and inspecting material products for quality and accuracy. 

PURPOSE AND MISSION

To build the weekly production schedule with a greater than 95% efficiency rating.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Accurately read and follow blueprints and diagrams.
• Operate and monitor semi-automated equipment.
• Lift, move and maneuver various sizes of wood and raw materials.
• Load raw material into machinery and move finished pieces to framing and sheeting areas as needed.
• Inspect both raw materials and finished products for quality. 
• Independently able to diagnose and correct errors.
• Ability to be crossed trained in other production departments as necessary. 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Understand basic math and reading skills.
• Ability to understand building material usages and construction practices.
• Ability to read a tape measure and utilize hand tools in a safe manner.
• Ability to read blueprints (construction/carpentry knowledge a plus).
• Able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis and climb up and down ladders as needed.
• Work in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Currently enrolled in Youth Apprentice program through School
• Prior production and/or construction knowledge a plus

• Stand and walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours/day).
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently, using proper lifting techniques.
• Reach overhead and at shoulder level (shoulder flexion/abduction up to 180&degree;).
• Bend and stoop (lumbar flexion up to 90&degree;) to access materials and equipment.
• Kneel and crouch (knee flexion up to 135&degree;) for tasks at floor level.
• Climb ladders and steps (hip and knee flexion up to 120&degree;). Climbing up and down on to framing tables (floor, wall, truss)
• Push/pull carts or materials (force up to 50 lbs).
• Use hands and arms for repetitive tasks, including gripping, pinching, and fine motor control (wrist flexion/extension up to 70&degree;, forearm rotation up to 180&degree;).
• Twist and rotate the torso (trunk rotation up to 45&degree;) during material handling.
• Must be able to perform both power grasping (e.g., holding and maneuvering tools, lifting lumber) and precision grasping (e.g., handling fasteners, operating controls) with both hands. 

• Power grasping: up to 75 lbs of force
• Precision grasping: fine motor control for tasks such as measuring, aligning, and assembling components
• Frequency: 6–8 hours per shift

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud; this position involves working in an indoor construction environment with running equipment.
