The Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Manager leads and oversees safety, health, environmental, process safety, and security programs across all U.S. operations. This role promotes and drives compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies, while building a proactive safety culture. The position is responsible for occupational health and safety, process safety management, environmental compliance, security management, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation across manufacturing facilities, warehouses, laboratories, and office locations.

Responsibilities

• Promote and drive compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal safety, health, and environmental policies.

• Lead and manage Safety, Health, Environment, and Process Safety topics across all U.S. operations, including manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory, and office locations.

• Lead monthly safety trainings and develop engaging training content to build awareness and capability in SHE topics.

• Identify, address, and correct observed unsafe conditions in an immediate, clear, and effective manner.

• Support, review, and approve investigations and analysis of SHE-related events, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective and preventive actions are implemented.

• Drive a shift from blame-based investigations to systems-based root cause analysis and promote a learning-focused safety culture.

• Collaborate with affected departments to develop, implement, and monitor effective controls to mitigate identified risks.

• Complete and oversee risk assessments to rank hazards, identify gaps, and develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.

• Maintain accountability for SHE-related aspects in the submission and review of Expenditure Proposals (EPs).

• Ensure proper SHE principles are applied within Management of Change processes and Work Permit systems.

• Assure reliable and accurate data in SHE reporting practices and support continuous improvement through data-driven insights.

• Contribute technically to the definition and implementation of Best Available Techniques (BATs) and engineering standards to improve safety and environmental performance.

• Work with local Labour, Health, and Environmental Authorities, as well as internal committees and workers councils when required, to ensure compliance and maintain constructive relationships.

• Define, implement, and periodically review Emergency Response Plans for relevant sites, ensuring readiness and alignment with regulatory and company requirements.

• Define, manage, and optimize the SHE budget to support strategic initiatives and operational needs.

• Share and promote relevant knowledge, best practices, and experience across sites to harmonize and elevate SHE performance.

• Coach site leaders, supervisors, and managers to take ownership of SHE performance and integrate safety and environmental considerations into daily operations.

• Provide remote SHE support and training to other locations and travel periodically to North Carolina and Georgia facilities to conduct onsite reviews, coaching, and training.

• Oversee SHE-related activities for a global population of approximately 130 people, ensuring consistent standards and practices.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience in safety and involvement in chemical manufacturing environments.

• Experience working with water-based and/or UV-based products in a manufacturing or process setting.

• Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and the ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations in an industrial environment.

• Ability to coach site leaders, supervisors, and managers to take ownership of SHE performance and drive behavioral and cultural change.

• Proven capability in conducting investigations using systems-based root cause analysis rather than blame-based approaches.

• Hands-on experience with process safety management (PSM) and related process safety principles.

• Experience developing, delivering, and leading safety training programs and monthly safety topics.

• Strong change management skills, including the ability to influence, drive change, and sustain improvements across multiple sites.

• Effective presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex safety and environmental topics clearly and persuasively.

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and locations.

• Demonstrated leadership skills and leadership development experience in a safety or operational context.

• Fluency in English, with the ability to interpret and communicate technical and regulatory information effectively.

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Five years of experience in SHE management or as a SHE advisor in the Chemicals, Pharma, or Oil & Gas sectors preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• MSc in Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry preferred.

• Higher education certification in Health & Safety preferred.

• Experience working in chemical manufacturing environments with exposure to water-based and UV-based products.

• Comfort working with and interpreting OSHA regulations, guidance, and standards.

• Experience coaching and mentoring leaders at various levels on safety ownership and performance.

• Demonstrated personal drive, initiative, and readiness to lead change and influence stakeholders.

• Experience collaborating with Labour, Health, and Environmental Authorities and internal committees or workers councils.

• Experience contributing to the definition and implementation of Best Available Techniques (BATs) and engineering standards.

• Experience managing or contributing to SHE budgets and resource planning.

• Willingness and ability to travel to North Carolina and Georgia locations on a quarterly or annual basis.

• Experience overseeing or supporting SHE programs across multiple sites and a global workforce.

Work Environment

The role is primarily based at a manufacturing site in Itasca, where the SHE Manager will spend most of their time. The position involves frequent visits to a nearby warehouse located approximately one mile from the main site to provide onsite support and oversight. The role supports additional U.S. locations in North Carolina and Georgia, providing remote training and guidance, with periodic travel to these sites on a quarterly or yearly basis. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
