Technical Writer
Cloudsmith
TL;DR: We're seeking a Technical Writer to bolster our documentation team as we scale, growing our documentation capability under the direction of our Senior Technical Writer.
About Cloudsmith Cloudsmith is the world's most powerful artifact management platform. Software organizations of all sizes rely on Cloudsmith to control and secure their software supply chains. Cloudsmith allows customers to manage curated private repositories that proxy public open-source software registries. Developers use these repositories as their trusted source for build artifacts. We support over 30 formats, including the most popular languages, package managers, operating systems, and AI and container protocols. We're aimed at the enterprise, with built-in comprehensive security and advanced features for policy enforcement, integrations, and observability. Customers consider Cloudsmith critical infrastructure, a central part of their software build chain. Cloudsmith is built by developers, for developers. We treasure the developer experience. The Tao of Cloudsmith expresses the values we live by every day. This is a special company, and now is a great time to join us.
The Role Cloudsmith's documentation is one of our most cited differentiators, and this role exists to help us keep the bar high as we scale. You'll join our documentation team, working alongside our Senior Technical Writer, to document our platform: package registries, artifact management, software supply chain security, and the wider DevSecOps ecosystem, helping developers become experts in it. Reporting to our senior technical writer, this is a hands-on writing role. You'll take primary ownership of documenting specific product areas, working closely with product and engineering to understand features before they ship, and with customer success and sales to understand where existing docs fall short. You'll make sure documentation is ready by the time a feature ships, and that documentation is treated as a critical part of the user experience.
Key Responsibilities Documentation creation & content development
Benefits, Location & Work Environment Note: You must be based in Ireland or the United Kingdom (or the USA) and have the right to work independently without requiring sponsorship.
Headlines
Health and Wellness Regardless of your location, we deeply care about the health and wellness of our staff and their families; a sustainable pace is important to us. In addition to generous annual leave (PTO), we offer health and well-being benefits and flexible, family-friendly work policies.
Personal Growth You will have an enormous opportunity to learn new skills alongside your colleagues, and your continued professional development is essential to us because it's important to you. We will support you with budgets for equipment, training, books, conferences, travel, and certifications. The more powerful you become, the better for all of us.
Facilities Cloudsmith is headquartered in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with fully-equipped office space that's open 24/7. We use our H.Q. regularly for activities like working sessions, team planning, meet-and-greets, and sometimes other group activities (like games!). We also hold company off-sites in Belfast twice a year, featuring guest speakers and team activities. Many Cloudsmithers work remotely, so we rely on our online collaboration tools; Slack, Google Docs, Linear, and other popular collaboration tools are how we work.
About Equal Opportunity Cloudsmith is an equal opportunity employer, proud to nurture a diverse workplace that welcomes applications from individuals of all races, genders, and ethnic groups. We do not discriminate based on age, religion, sexual orientation, citizenship status, military service, or health conditions. We will not tolerate discrimination of any kind within our workforce.
The Final Word We're looking for someone who can balance technical depth with genuine curiosity, has experience building documentation that developers trust, and is fearless about rolling up their sleeves when needed. We're a critical infrastructure built by developers for developers, building the world's software supply chain platform and ecosystem. We want to hear from you if you're excited to build the documentation that powers how the world manages its software supply chain, with a lasting impact on the software industry from today until IPO and beyond.

Key Responsibilities Documentation creation & content development
- Write documentation for new products and features, working directly with engineers to understand functionality before it ships
- Write guides and best-practice content for customers and users
- Create and manage supporting multimedia assets (screenshots, short-form video) for existing documentation formats
- Review, edit, and publish documentation contributions from others
- Manage and publish content to Cloudsmith's changelog
- Partner with product managers to flag documentation needs early enough to publish alongside releases, not after
- Work with customer success and sales to identify where documentation is causing friction or falling short so we can continually improve it
- Work with Cloudsmith's partners to ensure we show up in their documentation and it's accurate
- Own prioritization of a backlog of content improvements, including the thought and reasoning behind now / next / later
- Be a genuinely informed user of Cloudsmith's product, features, and integrations
- 5+ years of technical writing experience, preferably for an audience of software developers
- Proficient in HTML and Markdown
- Comfortable with "docs as code" and git-based version control workflows
- Working familiarity with package management, artifact registries, or DevOps toolchains (npm, Docker, Maven, Terraform, or similar)
- Clear, precise technical communicator
- Curious, motivated to learn quickly, comfortable asking engineers "why" until you actually understand a feature
Benefits, Location & Work Environment Note: You must be based in Ireland or the United Kingdom (or the USA) and have the right to work independently without requiring sponsorship.
