Job Summary

The CAD Designer is an entry-level position responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining engineering drawings, CAD models, tooling documentation, and related design records used in manufacturing. The role supports Engineering, Production, Research & Development, and other cross-functional teams throughout the design and manufacturing process.

 

Job Description

  • Create, modify, and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, mechanical layouts, production drawings, and related technical documentation.
  • Prepare drawings and design layouts based on engineering specifications, sketches, existing designs, or verbal instructions.
  • Prepare and maintain mold drawings for tooling work orders.
  • Create and revise mold component bills of materials (BOMs) for mold and fixture designs.
  • Support Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, and R&D teams with drafting and design activities.
  • Assist with tolerance analysis, tolerance studies, drawing updates, and design revisions.
  • Apply appropriate manufacturing methods, tolerances, and design considerations when preparing drawings and models.
  • Ensure drawings and CAD models accurately reflect design requirements and manufacturing needs.
  • Follow established drafting standards, design procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Develop an understanding of ANSI/ASME drafting standards, including applicable GD&T practices.
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, manufacturing personnel, and other team members to resolve design and production-related issues.
  • Support projects from initial concept and design through manufacturing, implementation, and revisions.
  • Assist with inspection, measuring, and reverse-engineering activities when required.
  • Work hands-on with mold and tooling assembly/disassembly as needed to support design and engineering activities.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers when required.
  • Assist with troubleshooting tooling, equipment, and manufacturing process issues.
  • Support the development of manufacturing methods that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Maintain accurate project status information and provide updates on assigned drafting projects.
  • Ensure assigned drafting and design projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Contribute to the improvement and standardization of existing and future mold and tooling designs.
  • Maintain accuracy and quality of assigned work while seeking guidance from engineers or senior team members when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and activities as assigned.

 

Skills Required

  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with Autodesk Inventor.
  • Basic CAD drafting and mechanical design experience.
  • Ability to create and modify engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate technical documentation.
  • Ability to understand basic mechanical design concepts and manufacturing requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical information.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, particularly within a small-team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability when priorities or project requirements change.
  • Willingness to learn, accept coaching, and develop technical skills.
  • Positive attitude, accountability, and desire for professional growth.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Experience performing tolerance studies or tolerance analysis.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 drafting standards.
  • Experience with mold, tooling, fixture, or mechanical design.
  • Experience with precision measurement equipment, including: Calipers, Micrometers
  • Experience with reverse engineering, inspection, or manufacturing support.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques.

 

Education

  • Technical degree, certificate, or coursework in CAD Design, Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Training, coursework, industry certification, or documented hands-on experience in CAD design or drafting will also be considered.
  • This is an entry-level position, and candidates with relevant education and foundational CAD experience are encouraged to apply.

 

Pay Rate

  • $28 - $36.06 per hour ( Compensation is offered based on experience, skills, and market factors)

 

Additional Requirements

  • Sched ule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule.
  • Must be able to work onsite and comfortably commute to the assigned worksite.
  • Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally perform hands-on activities involving mold and tooling assembly/disassembly, inspection, measurement, and reverse engineering.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a small-team environment.
  • Must be willing to learn company-specific drafting standards, manufacturing processes, and design procedures.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to accuracy, quality, safety, and timely completion of assigned work.
  • Ability to perform various duties within the physical and operational requirements of the position.
  • Casual work attire is acceptable, including jeans, polo shirts, or coveralls as appropriate for the work being performed.
