Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years minimum in pediatric cardiac care License: Current RN License in Texas or compact state Certifications: Current BLS certification, Current ACLS certification, Current PALS certification Must-Have: Pediatric cardiac experience (chest tubes, pacing wires, ventilators, vasoactive infusions) 2 years minimum experience in a related nursing specialty Description: The competent nurse practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to plan for long-range goals. Continuously develops the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation. Meets expectations of applicable competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. Consistent with nursing standards, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice. Utilizes appropriate protocol to administer medications and treatments; monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments. Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided. Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and resources. All newly hired experienced RNs must complete the designated organizational entry competency validation and department-specific competency validation. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is necessary. Two years of experience in a critical care setting is preferred but new graduates will be considered. Work schedule consists of 7 AM to 7 PM shifts.
