Food Service Position

Food Service encompasses all the positions needed to have the school kitchen/cafeteria run as a team, whereas one person can step in to fill the shoes of another's position on a moments notice. This includes any Food Service member that is a head cook, cashier, dishwasher, food prep, etc. At the direction of the designated school district Team Leader, these positions may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions, based upon the needs of the environment, on a daily basis.

Job duties include assisting with the preparation, maintenance and breakdown of the cafeteria serving line, providing a clean work area for serving. Food service staff may be responsible for overseeing the collection of monies from students for school meals, providing quality customer service, and record keeping. Food service staff also works with other members of the Department/Building in meeting goals and objectives in support of the District mission.

Qualifications and required documents include:

• Serve-safe certification preferred, but not required
• Education: High School Diploma (Not Required for Ephrata)
• A Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old **
• A Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old **
• A FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 5 years old **
• Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than 3 months
• 3 professional references (contact information) and/or letters
• A Resume
• Signed Health Agreement form – will be provided by Site Supervisor
• Routing number and account number for direct deposit setup
• 2 Valid forms of Identification for I-9.

Essential functions include arranging food and beverage items, attending meetings, cleaning utensils and equipment, evaluating prepared food items, inspecting food items and supplies, inventorying food and supplies, maintaining equipment and areas, monitoring kitchen and cafeteria areas, performing functions of other nutritional services positions, preparing food and beverage items, and practicing in accordance with the Substitute Teacher Service, Inc. Paraprofessional Handbook policies, and school district policies.

Physical requirements include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, moderate lifting from 15-35 pounds, moving of various items – up to 35 pounds, and manual dexterity to use office equipment. Other physical requirements include the ability to write legibly, vision (near, color, depth perception), sense of sound (ability to hear fire alarms, bells, and PA system), sense of touch (differentiate between hot and cold temperatures), and ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

The work environment includes temperature extremes and hazardous conditions, and exposure to varying degrees of temperature relative to the conditions occurring in nature outside. The emotional environment includes the ability to work with students and adults displaying a variety of emotions including, but not limited to, joy, happiness, sorrow, fear, anger and aggression in controlled, uncontrolled and unpredictable situations.
