Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking ABEM Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians for an expanding regional locum tenens opportunity in the Aiken, South Carolina area .

Physicians can move between a higher-volume hospital ED with extensive inpatient and specialty resources and focused 12-hour freestanding coverage. The need is ongoing , with both day and night opportunities across the regional program.

  • Emergency Medicine Physician locum tenens
  • Aiken region, South Carolina

  • Regional cross-credentialing
  • Main hospital + freestanding ED coverage
  • Day, evening and overnight shifts
  • 9-, 10- and 12-hour shift structures

Three Emergency Medicine Environments

Main Hospital Emergency Department
The regional hub provides full-spectrum Emergency Medicine within a substantial acute-care hospital environment.
  • 40,000+ annual ED visits
  • 35 ED beds
  • Approximately 2–2.3 patients/hour
  • Approximately 10–15% pediatric volume
  • Fast Track
  • Robust physician + APP coverage
  • CT and ultrasound
  • 24/7 radiology interpretation
  • Bedside ultrasound
  • Extensive inpatient and specialty backup
Current Physician Shifts
  • 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • 11:00 AM–9:00 PM
  • 4:00 PM–2:00 AM
  • 9:00 PM–7:00 AM
This is the higher-resource component of the regional assignment, with access to inpatient services and a broad specialty network.

Established Freestanding Emergency Department

The established FSED offers a different practice rhythm: lower-volume Emergency Medicine with 12-hour physician coverage and onsite diagnostic capability.
  • Approximately 11,000+ annual visits
  • 6 ED beds
  • Approximately 1–1.3 patients/hour
  • Approximately 20% pediatric volume
  • 3 Fast Track bays
  • CT and ultrasound
  • 24/7 radiology interpretation
  • No inpatient or ICU beds onsite

New Freestanding Emergency Department

The regional program is expanding with an additional freestanding Emergency Department in the North Augusta market.

The new facility is designed as a 24/7 emergency-care environment with onsite advanced diagnostic capability. Public development information describes approximately 13 treatment rooms with CT and X-ray capability , while current physician recruiting confirms both day and night locums coverage.

Current Physician Shifts
  • 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Because this is a newly opening ED, historical annual volume and patient-per-hour data are not yet established . I would not manufacture Sweetwater-equivalent volume assumptions.

Regional Practice Model

This assignment gives an experienced Emergency Medicine physician something a single-site locums position cannot: different clinical environments within one regional opportunity .

At the main hospital, physicians practice in a higher-volume department with APP coverage, Fast Track, inpatient capacity and extensive specialty backup.
At the freestanding locations, physicians transition to 12-hour ED coverage with onsite imaging and established escalation pathways when patients require hospital-level admission or specialty care.

That combination creates meaningful scheduling and practice variety without requiring physicians to credential into unrelated hospital systems.

  • ABEM Board Certification required
