Phlebotomist - Per Diem Evening

Position Summary The Phlebotomist is responsible for collection of specimens from patients. The phlebotomist is also cross‑trained to assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) when possible, assisting in specimen processing and filing. This person reports to the Phlebotomy Lead and Lab Manager, implements good public relations by representing the laboratory directly to patients, physicians, and hospital staff at all times. The role ensures quality of work, workflow, turn‑around time, and accurate testing to support quality patient care. The position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital and demonstrates behavior consistent with the Core Values, supporting the hospital’s strategic plan and quality improvement activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ensure phlebotomy supplies are restocked for all three shifts. Perform all clerical duties. Communicate appropriately with coworkers, hospital personnel, and physicians. Maintain laboratory coverage to provide adequate patient care, including last‑minute schedule changes. Collect samples from inpatients using standard venipuncture or skin‑puncture techniques per established policies. Inventory, report, and restock all phlebotomy testing supplies to ensure continuity of activities. Deliver specimens to the lab as needed. Enter data and maintain proficiency with the Lab Information System (LIS) and computer systems. Use manual backup procedures for the LIS. Assist customers with LIS information. Ensure the workplace is clean and neat. Maintain proper telephone etiquette at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Qualifications/Experience: Six months of experience in blood specimen collection (three years preferred). Internal candidates with a current CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician license will be considered. Special Skills/Knowledge: Proficient with LIS and computer applications. Current CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician license. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers certification from the American Heart Association. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card within 90 days of hire. #J-18808-Ljbffr
