Job Title: RN Surgical Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: - Minimum of 1 year of experience in a surgical floor or med/surg unit. - Stepdown/PCU experience is required. - Acute care surgical floor experience is a must. - Experience with patients post-operatively, including those with drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT is needed. License: - Current RN License issued by the appropriate state board. - Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association. Certifications: - No additional certifications preferred. Must-Have: - Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. - Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. - Basic computer skills. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing the care plan while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
