7East Medical Acute Care Unit is a 26-bed inpatient Medical-Surgical Unit which provides care to an adult and geriatric patient population. 7East is identified as the designated research floor for the organization with national recognition for the Liberate Pulmonary Study. Other research studies to include Alzheimer's, Renew, Melanoma, Plexifor, IV Carbamazepine, and Yohimbine are performed regularly. 7East provides holistic care for the patient with internal medicine issues of an acute and chronic nature to include but not limited to Sickle Cell Anemia, Cystic Fibrosis, Pulmonary Hypertension, Diabetes, COPD, Lupus, Sepsis, and Peritoneal Dialysis.

Job Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.

Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Ability to reach in all directions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. Ability to match or discriminate between colors. Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Good peripheral vision capabilities. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to work in a latex safe environment. Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.
