COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR

Community Outreach Coordinator (Job Number 416825) Under general supervision, outreach to and engage directly with diverse communities across Chicago to build and maintain relationships between the Chicago Police Department and historically marginalized and underserved communities. This may include liaison work with affinity communities such as LGBTQ+, immigrants, migrants, faith groups, unhoused populations, and more. Responsibilities Serve as a direct liaison between the department and various affinity communities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Support ongoing community engagement and outreach related to the consent decree and police reform initiatives, including managing and coordinating working groups, advisory committees, and stakeholder networks. Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and programs to raise awareness of department initiatives, programs, and services; build trust, address concerns, and promote collaborative problem‑solving. Develop, create, and maintain relationships with community‑based organizations, advocacy groups, and service providers to enhance outreach capabilities and resources. Conduct regular assessments of community needs and feedback to inform culturally sensitive outreach strategies and programs tailored to each community. Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to develop and distribute outreach materials, such as flyers, newsletters, and social media content. Provide training and support to department personnel on best practices for community engagement, cultural competency, and effective communication with marginalized and underserved communities. Monitor and evaluate the impact of outreach initiatives, preparing detailed reports and recommendations for continuous improvement. Represent the department at community events, forums, and meetings to build visibility and strengthen relationships. Assist in identifying, developing, and implementing best practices, outreach programs, and community events that increase stakeholder awareness. Maintain records and prepare reports of outreach activities. Respond to written requests for information on departmental programs as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission of the department. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field plus three (3) years of community or social services experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Valid State of Illinois driver’s license. Permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured, including a clause that insures the City of Chicago from accident liability. Preference will be given to candidates possessing experience collaborating with diverse communities, including LGBTQ+, individuals with disabilities, immigrants, migrants, refugees, people experiencing homelessness, and faith‑based groups. Selection Requirements The position requires completion of an interview that may include a written exercise and/or skills assessment. The candidate whose qualifications best suit the responsibilities will be selected. Employment Information This is a career service position located at Public Safety Headquarters, 3510 S Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60653. Days: Monday‑Friday, 9:00 am‑5:00 pm.
