About the Company

This position is with an established South Florida MEP consulting engineering firm that has been designing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in the region for more than fifty years. The firm is partner led, its principals are practicing professional engineers who stay on their own projects, and its project teams are small enough that an engineer works directly with the partner running the job.

The portfolio is high-rise residential, hospitality, mixed-use and institutional work, including towers currently in design and under construction in Miami. The firm designs in Revit on an in-house BIM standard it developed itself.

The Role

A Mechanical Engineer (EIT or PE) , full time and on site in Miami, designing HVAC and plumbing systems for high-rise and large commercial projects — modeling directly in Revit yourself .

The differentiator on this seat: you must be proficient in both mechanical and plumbing design. That requirement comes from the firm, and it is the one most candidates fail. A pure HVAC engineer who has never sized domestic water, sanitary and storm is not a fit here.

What You Will Do — Mechanical

• Cooling and heating load calculations and equipment selection for high-rise residential, hospitality, mixed-use and large commercial buildings.
• Central plant design where the project calls for it — chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and chilled and condenser water risers zoned up a tower — and split DX or VRF systems with corridor make-up air or a DOAS where it does not.
• Dehumidification and latent load. In South Florida the latent load, not the sensible load, is what makes or breaks a design. Ventilation air is conditioned before it reaches the space.
• Ventilation to ASHRAE 62.1, garage exhaust with CO monitoring, kitchen and laundry exhaust, and stair and elevator hoistway pressurization and smoke control on high-rise work.
• Ductwork and piping layout, and energy compliance under the Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation (8th Edition, 2023) via the ASHRAE 90.1-2019 path.

What You Will Do — Plumbing

• Domestic water design including booster pumps and pressure zoning — the pressure-reducing zones that make a tall building work are the clearest marker of real high-rise plumbing experience.
• Sanitary and vent risers, storm drainage with primary and secondary/overflow roof drainage, and fixture-unit sizing to the Florida Building Code, Plumbing.
• Fuel gas to the Florida Building Code, Fuel Gas; backflow prevention; grease waste where there is a commercial kitchen.
• Coordinate the fire protection interface — standpipe zoning and fire pump — with the fire protection designer.

What You Need

• EIT or PE. A Florida PE is welcome; an EIT is genuinely accepted.
• Both mechanical AND plumbing design. Mandatory, and the main screen.
• Hands-on Revit. Mandatory. You model your own work; you do not mark up and hand off.
• High-rise and large-project experience. Buildings, not infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of the Florida Building Code — Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuel Gas and Energy Conservation — and of Miami-Dade High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements, including product approval for roof-mounted equipment.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Able to work on site in Miami, full time, and authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to Have

• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Trane TRACE 3D Plus or Carrier HAP for load and energy modeling; Navisworks for clash detection; EnergyGauge Summit or an approved equivalent for Florida commercial energy compliance.
• Miami-Dade or City of Miami permitting experience.
• Prior MEP consulting-firm background, as opposed to contractor or owner side.

The Details

Full time, on site, Miami, Florida. Direct hire with the firm. Compensation is competitive and depends on licensure and depth of high-rise experience.
