POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Special Agent Supervisor, this position is responsible for conducting complex investigations from various origins including but not limited to, Office of the Governor, Chief Inspector General’s Office and internal investigations of complaints against departmental employees. The Inspector will at all times conduct himself in a courteous, diplomatic, and professional manner. Special attention and complete adherence will be made to all policies and procedures of FDLE, especially as it relates to personal conduct. Even the appearance of impropriety must be avoided.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

• Responsible for reviewing or investigating all Whistle-Blower complaints and complaints that allege a member of FDLE has violated law, policy, procedure or otherwise has failed to conduct themselves in a manner expected of FDLE members;

• Resolving various complaints made to FDLE which are not immediately subject to investigation by the Office of Inspector General, maintains required levels for sworn members and maintains proper control of assigned departmental property;

• Demonstrating the ability to research, review and recommend appropriate action to resolve complaints. Complaints will be properly documented, and referral documents and correspondence will be prepared without spelling or grammatical errors;

• Mandatory retraining, firearm qualification and any required proficiency level for sworn personnel will be maintained at all times;

• Assigning departmental property will be kept in good working order with a high regard placed on proper maintenance, care, and close accountability on each item of property. Property transfers will be appropriately coordinated and documented;

• Demonstrating professional image through appropriate dress, demeanor and overall interaction with fellow members, Command Staff, officials, and professional counterparts; and will complete all administrative tasks in an accurate and timely manner;

• Excepting as may be necessary in furtherance of an approved special investigative role, the Inspector will always dress in acceptable business attire consistent with those whom he daily interacts. Daily interaction may include Command Staff, Office of the Governor and Cabinet, State Attorneys, other agency heads, agency counterparts, etc. Other exceptions only by supervisory approval;

• All administrative tasks, i.e., weekly reports, vehicle logs, briefing documents, travel vouchers, etc., will be submitted accurately and in a timely fashion consistent with current departmental policy and procedure.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of and ability to utilize legal, acceptable, and effective investigative techniques;

• Working knowledge and understanding of law, criminal and administrative procedure applicable to general and internal investigations;

• Working knowledge and understanding of the governmental structure for the state of Florida;

• Knowledge and understanding of law, criminal and administrative procedures applicable to general & internal investigations;

• Ability to interpret and apply guidelines outlined in F.S. 112.532 (Officer’s Bill of Rights) and 112.3187(Whistle-blower Act).

• Ability to comprehend and retain critical facts;

• Ability to verbally communicate results/progress of investigative activity in an effective and efficient manner;

• Ability to establish investigative goals and objectives and to plan, prioritize and implement necessary steps to accomplish such;

• Ability to demonstrate a professional image in appropriate dress, demeanor, and personal interaction; and

• Skill in oral and written reporting and documentation.

BASE SALARY:

• $69,709.64

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
