Organization Neonatal/ Pediatric Transport Job Summary The Critical Care Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Team at Monroe Carell Jr. Children\'s Hospital at Vanderbilt is a specialized and CAMTS accredited team that provides the highest level of care in ground and fixed wing transport to patients requiring resources at the children’s hospital. The transport team consists of respiratory therapists, registered nurses, and EMTs who use their specialized knowledge to provide a well-rounded approach to patient care. Being a registered nurse on the transport team enhances clinical skills and contributes to improving patient outcomes during critical moments. Responsibilities Provide critical care to neonatal and pediatric patients during ambulance and fixed wing transport. Assess patients and use established transport protocols to treat medical conditions. Think critically and adapt to the changing environment of transport while providing patient care. This position is for a registered nurse who will be based out of the Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Team\'s Clarksville Base after completion of orientation to the team and functions of the role. Work hours: Full-time nights (36 hours weekly). Key Responsibilities The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned. Assess patients to identify clinical needs. Initiates and manages patient care per protocol during ground and fixed wing transport. Use of medication pumps. Advanced cardiac monitoring. Initiating respiratory treatments and all modalities of respiratory support (NC, HFNC, BCPAP, BIPAP, MV). Supporting the RRT with use of High Frequency Ventilation and Nitric Oxide. Performs intubations. Performs needle decompressions. Insertion of low lying UVCs. Troubleshoot transport equipment. Work with the Registered Respiratory Therapist and EMT on transport to provide patient care. Run blood gases and glucose checks per POCT guidelines and interpret results. Maintain competencies required by institution, department, and CAMTS. Collaborate with receiving units at MCJCHV and referring facilities to coordinate patient transport. Knowledgeable in nursing role and able to perform duties within scope of practice to patients during transport. Second Set of Key Responsibilities Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum. Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient\'s care and management to determine nursing diagnosis. Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient\'s progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions for effective outcomes. Employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Technical Capabilities Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work. Adapts to changes in patient care with minimal disruption. Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Proficient in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Proficient in assessing and evaluating patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Proficient in searching for evidence to answer clinical questions; generally works under direction of others.
