Medical Billing Specialist Full Time Washington, DC, US 5 days ago Requisition ID: 1283 Neurology Services, Inc. is looking to hire a full-time Medical Billing Specialist . The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for posting charges and receipt of payment for all medical services rendered by Neurology Services, Inc. You will be supporting the founder and owner of Neurology Services, Inc., Dr. Peter Bernad. The practice focuses on determining the basis or cause of a patient’s problem across a wide variety of neurological conditions. Neurology Services, Inc. has served the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for over 40 years. Each patient receives quality care accompanied by individual attention from a courteous staff. The practice is committed to excellence. Neurology Services, Inc. provides services at three locations: 2616 Sherwood Hall Lane, Suite 201, Alexandria, VA 22306 2112 F Street NW, Suite 303, Washington, D.C. 20037 Additional location Responsibilities Billing insurance companies following a patient’s office visit. Confirming that a patient’s insurance company will pay for pending clinical care. Travel between the 3 offices as needed; reliable personal vehicle required. Posting insurance, patient and credit card payments for all assigned payers on a daily basis. Completing claim forms, submitting patient statements and claims. Managing the claims submission process for all assigned payers. Ensuring all claims are submitted with a minimal error rate. Maintaining records of electronic claims/Patient Statements including transmission confirmation reports. Following up on all claims via website, phone and/or correspondence regarding reimbursement. Facilitating steps necessary to ensure all claims are paid in a timely manner. Monitoring insurance payments to ensure the practice is paid accurately and according to payment schedules. Monitoring self-pay and uninsured patient accounts; continuous follow-up and collection as necessary. Working with management to identify payer trends and non-payment issues. Researching or obtaining incomplete or additional information for billing requirements as needed. Keeping abreast of any change in policy that affects the filing of claims and timeliness of payment. Attending in-service given by plan representative to maintain an understanding of billing procedures. Establishing and maintaining written guidelines about billing requirements of all insurance companies. Running weekly and/or monthly reports. Analyzing and processing adjustments as necessary. Processing and documenting refund requests. Following up, resubmitting and/or appealing unpaid claims and processing accounts as needed for bad debt. Demonstrating legal and ethical responsibilities to protect patient confidentiality. Collecting account balances and establishing payment arrangements as needed. Identifying patients who qualify for hardship services. Assisting patients with an explanation of payer reimbursement and account status. Attending required staff meetings and continuing education courses as requested. Being self‑motivated, organized, detail‑oriented and a team player. Performing all other tasks as requested by the Manager. Qualifications 3 to 5 years of experience with medical insurance billing. Positive attitude. Excellent communication skills. Technological savviness. Experience with electronic medical records. Providing references. Providing salary requirement. Providing a cover letter explaining why you would be a good fit. Performance Standards Professionalism with coworkers and clients. Compliance with all duties and responsibilities. Accuracy and timeliness of data entry and error resolution. Compliance with company, state, federal, and carrier rules and regulations. Attendance and tardiness. Ethical standards and honesty.
